There is a "easy" way to find out what firmware do we have compatibility with a template .dcf file?

Hi all!

There is a "easy" way to find out what firmware do we have in a template .dcf file?

I recently received a template file from a customer but I'm not been able to discover what firmware version it has been developed and I lost the customer contact for further investigation. I need to inspect some logics in this template so I tried several firmware versions with our bench meter (it's an ION7500), but they all say "template mismatch".

So, any clues?

In the next available build, I will add the discovered device type and firmware version from the DCF file into the TEMPLATE.LOG to help with these issues (regardless if the paste works or not).

In ION Setup, there is a template log which record information about the template paste. You may be able to find the details about the firmware from this log. Typically, (but there may be exceptions) firmware is backwards compatible, newer firmware is able to load older versions of templates. It could be that the dcf file is from ION 7550 for example and that will likely not work on ION 7500.

Hi Charles!

Are you talking about the "Template Comparison" report? It gives me the error "Device types do not match", then "Device configuration differs from stored template".

And when I try to send it to meter, it shows:

I already tried 4 firmware versions, not want to do a combinatorial analysis.

About been an ION7550, the customer at the time we talk send me as been from an ION7500, so how can I doubt...

The "saved" DCF format is a binary format so its not human readable in most cases.  The first four bytes of the file would contain the device type # lookup and a 16 bit representation of the recorded firmware version.

If you have a hex editor or if you want to post the DCF file (or just e-mail it to me robert.lee@schneider-electric.com) I can examine it and tell you want device type it was saved from and what firmware was running on that device.
