If I'm not mistaken, you're referring to fiber optic SC-duplex connectivity, which is converted from the meter's onboard Ethernet port:
The optical port located on the front panel of the meter—used primarily for local communication or configuration—is not supported by the PM8000 series. Only the ION7400 and ION9000 meters include an optical port.
PM8240 supports dual Ethernet ports for daisy-chaining and redundancy which is not practical for multiple locations are far apart(more than 100 meters), however, linking the meters using fiber—capable of spanning up to 2000 meters— requires industrial fiber switches or media converters that support daisy-chaining or ring topology.
For example:
[PM8240 + Fiber Module] <--fiber--> [Managed Switch] <--fiber--> [PM8240 + Fiber Module] <--fiber--> [Managed Switch] ...
