Hi
I'm trying to upgrade my PM8000 METSEPM8243 to latest firmware (4.5.0) from 1.0.57.
Initially I tried to upgrade to MID firmware 2.1.0, but after installing the first part of the .ZIP (version 1.88.0), it seems stuck in download mode. Due to firmware 1.88.0 doesn't support the firmware (2.1.0 upx), it says in log file.
Afterwards I've tried with both MID and standard firmware, as I was unsure which to use - also tried using upgrade files individually and in the bundled ZIP, but nothing helps.
My concern is that I might have used the wrong firmware (MID/standard).
I there anyone who have experienced the same, or know what to try next?

Hello @thinghus ,
V1.88.0 is intermediate firmware that preps the meter to accept the new format for firmware files (.upx). When meter is at this version of firmware, the meter does not connect to the display nor measure any voltage, current power etc. I see in the logs that you tried to downgrade the meter to V1.4.3. This is exactly what tech support would recommend in this situation. I see in the log that this downgrade did not work.
Have you tried to power cycle the meter with disconnecting the control power? If you have not, try that followed by down grading the meter to V1.4.3. If this does not help, it is likely the meter will need to be replaced.
In future, if upgrading a meter with old firmware V1.3.x and older, upgrade the meter to V1.4.3 before upgrading to V2.1.0.
Regards,
Charles

Hi
The first observation I have is your RMD image on the screen - this indicates it has old firmware on it (compatible only with pre V2 meter firmware), so the RMD firmware will also need to be updated. ION Setup has a checkbox for this in the firmware upgrade process, or it can be done independently.
Is it possible to provide the factory module information for the meter in it's present state? It looks like from the log files that standard, MID was attempted and also the latest firmware. You should see the firmware to 2.1.0 successfully first.
If you have logged a tech support ticket, thanks to provide the ticket number - this will likely be the fastest resolution avenue.
Thanks!
Tom

Hi both
Thanks for help so fare.
Unfortunately my problem still persists, so I've created a support ticket #107363815.
I've attach screen dump of Setup Registers.
I've tried to power cycle the meter and reapply the firmware (both V1.4.3 and V2.1.0 standard), but without success.
Seems at the moment I need to replaced the meter.
Best regards
Thinghus

You have likely mistakenly upgraded to MID firmware and when attempting to upgrade to MID 2.1.0 firmware the firmware was unable to successfully ZIP it file contents properly (which is preventing the upgrade from 1.88.0 firmware).
I've attached a *MID* version of the 1.4.3 firmware which you can try to download to the meter and attempt again to upgrade to the 2.1.0 MID firmware to see if the ZIP can be done successfully or not.
However, once you've done the first upgrade from 1.0.57 to MID firmware, there is no way to get off the MID firmware track unless remote access is provided to tech support. Otherwise, I'd recommend getting a replacement meter with standard firmware already installed.

For what it's worth, I had a similar problem trying to upgrade a METSEPM8243 from 1.4.3. I tried installing the MID 2.1.0 by mistake, and ended up in the same "stuck in download" situation. I solved it by running the upgrade using the standard 1.4.3 firmware (basically, reinstalling the same version that is already on the meter). This "unstuck" the download mode. I was then able to start upgrading to newer versions of the non-MID firmware without issue.
