PM8000 and PM5000 Display Cables
We had an interesting experience in our in house Schneider-Electric lab involving remote display cable for the PM8000 and PM5000 series meters. Our QED demonstration lineup has a factory installed PM8000 meter. While accessing the display we found that the response was sluggish when pressing buttons. Sometime the buttons would not respond at all and other times the menu would randomly respond or time out and go back to the main summary display.
We believe that either the meter or the display was nonfunctional. During our investigation we found that a PM5000 remote display cable was used with a PM8000 meter display. It was a surprise that it worked at all since the PM5000 remote display cable has fewer conductors than the PM8000 cable. The PM8000 cable is a standard Ethernet Patch cable so it was easy to find one that work in the space.
Hope that this helps anyone else who runs into a similar situation.
