Interval time when Comtrade module is operating

Hello,

If the comtrade module acquires waveforms continuously, do I need to consider the interval time?

I thought that if the ION9000 record a voltage sag, the Waveform Recorder Module and the Comtrade module would capture the same number of waveforms.

However, in reality, five waveform files were generated by the Recorder Module and three by the Comtrade module.

After analyzing the waveforms, we found that the Comtrade module could not keep up with the continuous waveform capture by the Recorder module.

So I would like some advice as to why the number of waveforms I get is different.

Hello @Miyai ,

This may also have to do with when pulses are sent to the waveform capture modules. In the waveform recorder module, if a new pulse is received while waveform recorder is currently collecting a waveform, the module will trigger a new waveform recording at the end of the current waveform recording. Only the back to back waveforms are not  included in the COMTRADE.

Regards,
Charles

Hi @Miyai

If the COMTRADE Module is enabled, whenever the Waveform Recorder Module completes a recording, it triggers the COMTRADE Module via the 'Record Complete' input.

Upon being triggered, the captured waveforms from the Waveform Recorder Module are converted into the COMTRADE format and stored in the meter’s internal SFTP server.

This procedure is handled automatically by the meter, with no manual tasks required, however, there are other parameters in the COMTRADE Setup Registers such as Depth, Record Mode, Buffer Depth and LogMode, that affect module operation if not configured properly. This is especially important when data is being continuously logged at a high rate.

You can check 'Record Complete' output register of COMTRADE Module which indicates the number of COMTRADE record created and saved to the meter’s internal SFTP server and number of pulses triggered by Waveform Recorder Module at Input Registers. Also to ensure if no COMTRADE is lost, check the 'Buffer Exceeded' output register:

For more info regarding the COMTRADE's Setup parameters, please refer to ION Reference, COMTRADE Module.

Best Regards,

-Mehran

Hello, @Charles_Murison , @Mehran_Mehrnia

Thank you for advice.

I have retested and was unable to accurately capture the timing between waveform capture module and comtrade module.

Therefore, I realized that it is difficult to get a continuous waveform on Comtrade module.

Best regards,

Miyai
