Dear Experts,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to you today to seek your expertise regarding a query raised by a client concerning the ION 7400 power meter and its ability to accurately measure power and energy parameters under the presence of harmonic distortions up to the 63rd order.
The client specifically inquired about the accuracy of the ION 7400's measurements when subjected to such harmonic distortions. They expressed concern that the presence of these distortions might compromise the reliability and validity of the meter's readings.
I have conducted some research on the relevant standards, including IEC 62053-22 and ANSI C12.1, but I have not been able to find a definitive answer to the client's question.
I would greatly appreciate your insights on the following:
Can the ION 7400 accurately measure power and energy parameters under the presence of harmonic distortions up to the 63rd order?
If so, what is the level of accuracy that can be expected under these conditions?
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Juan Quintanilla.

Yes for the most part, the ION7400 provides quantities following the IEEE 1459 recommended algorithms for power. Some of the 1459 definitions are not provided by default, but the ION7400 can be easily configured to provide most of those. Was there a specific calculation or definition you are interested in?
The Power Meter module performs time domain calculations using 512 samples per (fundamental) cycle.
The Power Harmonics module performs frequency domain calculations up to the 63rd harmonic.

Hello @JhimmyJMQT1,
These questions are not as simple as one might think at first glance. I can give some context behind what the meter does. To start, the meter has more than 1 power reading. There is fundamental frequency power and other. I say other as there are some settings in places that will dictate the meter's calculations.
kVAR has a setup register "UseFundkVAR" that determine if the meter uses fundamental frequency for kVAR calculations. For the active power, are you expecting harmonics on voltage current or both? For example, if voltage has no harmonics but current has 20% THD, The active power is equal to fundamental voltage dot product with fundamental current.
kVA has 2 options, vector summation or scaler summation.
When Schneider gives an accuracy rating, there is a standard that needs to be reference. If you have a specific standard in mind we can discuss further.
Regards,
Charles

Hello @Charles_Murison ,
Thank you for your attention to my previous query. I would like to know which standard I can use to resolve this issue, as the IEC 62053-22 and ANSI C12.1 standards have not provided me with the information I was looking for.
I believe that the IEEE 1459 standard could be more useful for my case. Based on this standard, what values would the ION 7400 take into account and would it consider harmonics up to the 63rd order?
I appreciate your time in advance and look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Juan Quintanilla

Hello @JhimmyJMQT1 ,
Curious if the IEC62052-11 ed.2 §9.4.2.2 , §9.4.2.3 and §9.4.2.4 will meet the need. ION7400 meets the Class 0,2S requirements.
Regards,
Charles

Hello @Charles_Murison ,
And that about the IEEE 1459 ?, Can the ION7400 accurately measure power and energy parameters under harmonic distortions up to the 63rd order while adhering to the IEEE 1459 standard?
Understanding the capabilities of the ION7400 in this context would be very helpful. Any information or resources you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
Sincerely,
Juan Quintanilla

Hi @JhimmyJMQT1 ,
IEEE 1459-2010 is currently in the state of inactive-reserve and is being revised in a new standards project. The new edition is being balloted now. Schneider Electric is following the development of that new edition, which is focused on the fundamentals of how to compute kW and kVA under all conditions: balanced/unbalanced and sinusoidal/nonsinusoidal.
