How to get ION Setup to allow a serial COM port higher than 16
By default, ION Setup allows users to select serial COM ports between 1 and 16. If required, users can modify the IONSETUP.INI file to allow access to higher number COM ports.
Use the following procedure:
Locate the IONSETUP.INI file by opening the Options dialog under Tools -> Options (or clicking on the checkbox icon on the toolbar). Copy the folder location from the Config Directory edit box into a Windows Explorer address bar to open the folder location.
Open the IONSETUP.INI file with NOTEPAD or any other text editor.
Locate the Communications section (ex. [Communications]) or create a new section at the bottom of the file if one isn't already present. Find/create the SerialPorts entry to indicate the maximum number of serial COM ports ION Setup should allow (ex. SerialPorts=32). Increasing the number will decrease the number of available Ethernet gateway sites (shouldn't be an issue unless we have over 200 sites) so keep the number as small as possible.
Restart ION Setup and it should expose the additional serial ports from the droplist of available serial ports.
