Hi support,
Our customer asked me " How does the ION meter keep time when the power is off? "
and "Is it possible to replace the battery if the ION meter keeps time using something like coin battery?"
if so, how often do they have to replace it?
Do you have any idea?
Thanks,
Okada

Hello @Tomohiro-Okada ,
I moved your question to the metering forum. For the first question "How does the ION meter keep time when the power is off?" This is done with a battery that is used to power the meter's clock.
As for your next question, there are some details missing such as what type and version of ION Meter.
For example, ION7650 meters have 2 different versions, the most common is the Comm Card has a socket where a battery can be placed. See https://www.se.com/in/en/faqs/FA411084/ for more details.
ION8650 meters have a detachable battery that can be replaced. See here
Regards,
Charles

Hi Charles,
Thank you for answering my question quickly!
and sorry for lack of meter type information.
In this case, our customer uses METSEION92040 and METSEPM8240.
Would you please tell me about these models?
Thanks,
Okada

Hello @Tomohiro-Okada ,
The ION9000 and PM8000 meters have a battery with expected lifespan of at least 7 years. The battery replacement kit has not yet been commercialized.

Hello @Charles_Murison and @Tomohiro-Okada,
I had an event where an ION8650A was turned off for 2 hours, then turned on and the clock was 4 minutes lag. It currently has a remaining battery percentage of 70% and the battery was replaced 6 years ago.
When the battery is new should theoretically keep time?
Is it time to change the internal battery?
I will appreciate your clarification,
Regards,
Gustavo

Hello @galcaPsE ,
When the battery was replaced, were the counters reset to return to 100%? Not enough information to go on clock. Recommend you contact your local technical support and collect diagnostic information.
Regards,
Charles
