We are excited to announce the launch of our new firmware for some of our Advanced Metering offers.
Firmware version V4.0.0 is now available on se.com for the ION9000, ION7400, and PM8000.
Our latest release continues our efforts to secure our devices by introducing Secure ION. This will now allow for encrypted communication between the device and our software offers over the ION protocol. Standard ION protocol support remains available for those with legacy software systems. Furthermore, we have added support for increased passwords lengths, moving from 6 alphanumeric characters maximum to now 16 alphanumeric characters. Note that you will need to update your respective software to support these new features.
Secure ION, will be immediately supported by ION Setup in it’s latest version. Shortly we will be adding support for Secure ION in Power Monitoring Expert (PME) with PME Cumulative Update 2022 and in the future with Power Operations as part of the Q1/Q2 – 2023 Release.
It is highly recommended that you upgrade your meter firmware to the latest version of firmware to benefit from increased robustness in your product.

Hello @sesa108084_brid,
Are you able to to paste a meter template? Please consider making a new post rather than replaying to an old post in the future.

Hello @Rajakumar_K ,
A lot will depend on what you mean by "Compatible". Will PME collect onboard logs? yes*. Will PME be able to show real time values? Yes **. Will Designer have latest framework file? No.
*Assumes meter has been configured with advanced security, this security is default since V3.x.x.
** May not show the latest version of diagrams or Vista pages. May default to a generic diagram

Charles

Hi, regarding Secure ION... Do we know how this might apply to an ION meter acting as a Modbus Gateway (Modgate) to downstream connected serial meters? Could the Gateway configured in PME (which would be the meter) be configured for Secure Connection on Port 802, while simultaneously being configured for Secure ION Connection on port 7443 to the Meter Device itself? Thanks.

Hello @Nicholas_Brown ,
Meters currently do not support Secure Modbus, this includes Modbus Gateway (ModGate).

Charles

Good electrical conductors can be well supplied for direct measurement and work by sizing the conductors.

Could the release update for ION9000 include details similar to the PN8000 update in version 4.0?

Is there a compatibility restriction between the hardware and the latest firmware versions released for the ION7400 (specifically referring to v4.5.0 published on May 21, 2024)?
Link copied. Please paste this link to share this article on your social media post.
Hello @bhernandez ,
ION7400 meters with any version of firmware can be upgraded to V4.5.0. There may however be a few steps involved depending on what version you are starting from. Some versions of firmware are not available online and require contacting technical support to get.
v1.3.x and below, upgrade to v1.4.3 first.
v1.4.3 upgrade to v2.1.0
v2.1.0 to v4.0.0 upgrade to v4.5.0
Note that once you upgrade to V4.5.0, you cannot downgrade the meter to a previous version.

Charles

Hi,
Can the PM8240 be daisy chained to a panel server without losing functionality?
PAS800L ---> slave 1 PM8240 ----> slave 2 PM5310 -----> slave 3PM5310 ----> slave n PM5310 max as per PME daisy chain calculator
Can I use ION protocol if its in a Modbus RTU daisy chain with a panel server?

Hello @jedzruiz1985
This is a loaded question. When there are other devices on the serial chain that are talking modbus the PM8240 cannot use the ION protocol. If you are using Power Monitoring Expert (PME) then you will be able to use ION over modbus. This will allow you to use Modbus on the serial port but still have access to features on the meter only available through ION.
If you are using a SCADA system that does not support ION over modbus you will be limited to modbus only features on the meter. The meter will still function, you will just not be able to to get all of the features through communications.

Charles

Hi Charles,
Thanks for your reply. So if the PM8240 comms configuration is set to Modbus RTU so it can be discovered by a panel server. PME can still retrieve the waveforms from the meter? Or do I need to set something on the meter to enable this?

Hi,
can u please confirm if this upgade is comaptible with PME v.2023?
Vista and device drivers?
We still struggle with ION9000T and what firmware template that is supported, or should be used!???
For instance, the NORMAL/TEST mode button did not work properly after the previous upgrade. (we had to edit the vista diagram with our own feedback for what mode the meter actually is in.
What template to use for ION9000T?

Hello @geir_eas_no_bfo ,
Did you reach out to your local technical support? If there is an undesired behavior in PME, the technical support team can log a ticket with the development team. Sadly posting a comment on the forum does not get something fixed as developers need to trace changes to specific tickets and those tickets come through tech support.

Charles
