Hi teams,
I have concern, i want configure in communication of 2 PM8000, 1 slave and 1 master as image below.
How do i do in PM8000? Thanks very much
This is my configure in PM8000. Do i it right or wrong?
Image 0: Architecture
Image 1: Config PM8000 is Master
Image 2: Config PM8000 is Slave

The PM8000 has 2 different ways to be a gateway
Ethergate:
Ethernet connected meter, Com Protocol: Ethergate
Connect to the meter on port 7801, only 1 connection at a time. Can be either ION or Modbus, depends on the setting of RS485 meter and the software connecting to the meter. Recommended only 1 protocol on the RS-485 loop, not recommended mix ION and mosbus.
Modbus gateway:
Ethernet connected meter,
Com Protocol: Modbus Master
Modbus master option module, Serial connection 1 -> Comm1 Gateway enabled and serial connection 1 selected
RS-485 Meter com protocol has to be Modbus.
Multiple connections to the gateway meter possible on port 502. One big downside is that the RS-475 meter does not have access to logged values, waveforms etc when using Modbus.
If using PME to talk to the RS-485 meter. STRONGLY recommend using ethergate, as no default drive to talk modbus to the PM8000 in PME.

Hi @Yut ,
Because my customer hard supply IP. So, we just need 01 PM8000 is Ethergate, 08 PM8000 will slave with modbus RS485
Hic.

Modbus master is used 1 for 2 possible conditions, 1, the meter is modbus mastering the slave devices itself, or 2, the meter is acting as a modbus gateway only, no other protocol is able to talk to downstream devices. Many features of the PM8000 meter are only avalaiable to the ION Protocol especially when using PME so I DO NOT recommend using modbus for the downstream device.
Ethergate is able to transfer the ION requests from Ethernet to serial and then back to ethernet to PME. Port 7801 is only used with Ethergate and the meter can only use 1 setting for the serial side. You will still only use 1 IP address but it will be duel function, 1 device is an ethernet device, the downstream device is a serial device on ethernet gateway.

You can use the first PM8000 as gateway using ION protocol.

Com 1 Serial port between the 2 meters do not match, Master is 8E2, slave is 8N1. Both need to match.

Hi Charles,
Thanks you. I will revise.
I will configure as follows:
- PM8000 is master:
+ COM1 Protocol: EtherGate
+ COM 1 Baud rate: 9600
+ COM1 Timeout: 3.000
+ COM1: Unit ID: 1
+ COM1: Serial port: 8E2
+ COM1: RS485 Bias: ON
- PM8000 is Slave:
+ COM1 Protocol: ION
+ COM 1 Baud rate: 9600
+ COM1 Timeout: 3.000
+ COM1: Unit ID: 3
+ COM1: Serial port: 8E2
+ COM1: RS485 Bias: ON
Is the configure correct?

Hello,
If you can do faster than 9600 baud rate without communications issues I would suggest that 19.2k is pretty common. On the slave meter I would disable the RS485 Bias.

Hi Charles,
Yes. Thanks Charles. I know and i also want use Baud rate 19,2k. But, My customer PME system use 9200 because their system unstable.
I will disable RS485 bias at slave meter.
And the rest in this setting it ok? Thanks Charles

Question I have is the PM8000 the only slave device on the RS-485? If there are other Modbus device on the same loop, you will likely need to reconfigure the protocols and move to Modbus Gateway which uses Modbus Master (instead of Ethergate) on the gateway PM8000 and Modbus RTU (instead of ION) on the slave PM8000. You would also need to set the Modbus Gateway to COM1 via ION Setup (Basic Ethernet -> TCP/IP tab). You will also need recent PM8000 firmware and PME in order to support ION over Modbus in order to operate in this manner. We do not recommend mixing ION devices using ION protocol with Modbus-based devices on the same RS-485.
If there are only ION meters on the RS-485, then what you have shown is correct (although your original diagram Image 0: Architecture indicated Modbus protocol and not ION).
Also you will be restricted to a single master (PME by the looks of it) to communicate to the slave PM8000 (i.e. trying to use another application like ION Setup will result it in not able to connect to the Ethergate port of 7801 while PME is connected).

Hi Robert,
Thanks you. Yes. The only PM8000 slave device in loop RS485.
So, my architecture is correct?. My customer only read value fundamential: I, V, P, E.
Thanks Robert.

Why MODBUS you can get most of PM8000 with PME using ION Protocol ?

Hi @Charles_Murison @Yut ,
I was configure for the first PM8000 is Master (Modbus master) and the second PM8000 is slave look like image below.
But when i configure in PME. I can't reveive data. Pls see and recommend for me if i wrong setting.
Thanks very much

On the PM8000 is Master, change the port 1 protocol to Ethergate.

Hi @Charles_Murison ,
Thanks for your information. But why PM8000 port 1 replace from Modbus Master to Ethernet Gateway?

How Can i change Parity Bit in PM8000 ?

Hello @sarfraj ,
This can be change from the front panel or software like ION Setup (https://www.se.com/us/en/download/document/ION_Setup_Latest_Release/)
