Can the ECC21 on an existing CM4250/CM3350 support RS485 communications to the PM5000 series?

Customer has existing CM4250 with ECC21 integrated to PME. Would like to add one PM5330 in the electrical room and use the existing ECC21 on the meter as a gateway to the new meter. Is this supported?

Hi Eric -

The ECC21 card has Ethernet gateway functionality, and supports Modbus. The PM5330 is a Modbus meter, so yes, you can use the CM4250 + ECC21 to gateway the PM5330 to Ethernet. You just need to follow the wiring instructions to install the correct jumpers in the ECC21 terminal block, since the ECC21 can handle either 2 wire or 4 wire RS485.

It is that easy? And there is no special configuration in the CM4250 /ECC21.

Wire properly.

Simply identify the PM5330 meter in PME Management Console as if it was another meter like the PM820?.

OK - there is the step in which you access the ECC21 web page and add the Modbus address of the PM5330. But that's a simple, quick process. The ECC card does not care what the device is - it just needs to know the Modbus address of the device. Once you've added the device on the ECC card, you set up the CM4250 as a gateway in Management Console and add the PM5330 as another meter to the system. It is easy. If there are any questions/issues, Tech Support can walk the customer through it.

The ECC is like any other gateway. Match RS485 parameters. Easy as Pi. You can also use a 4 - 2 wire converter if going all two wire is not practical.
