Hello, I just purchased a new BR1500LCD model. I took it out of the box, and connected the battery. After doing this, both the power on/off button, and display button were lit, but no beeps or anything. I plugged the unit in to the wall outlet, and then pressed the power on/off button. Nothing happened. The LCD screen remained off, and would not come on no matter how many times I tried. I checked to make sure the circuit breaker reset button on the back wasn't tripped, and it wasn't. I plugged a clock into the surge only outlets, and had power, but nothing on the battery backup outlets.
Anyway, I ended up chatting with an APC employee on line, and they told me to un-plug the UPS, and disconnect the battery again, and then connect the battery back up. I did this, and the UPS came to life. It started beeping four times to tell me it was on battery power. I then plugged it in, and could power on the LCD. It ran its little test, and everything is now fine, and the battery is charging. I also have power now on all outlets.
My question is, what was going on here? What caused it to act the way it did when I first connected the battery?
Thanks!

hmm very interesting. do you have a voltmeter to check the output voltage of the UPS from the battery back up outlets while the UPS is on battery? preferably a true RMS voltmeter..

Hmmmm, after the battery symbol showed that the unit was totally charged, I ran a little test on it. I plugged a radio into the battery backup side, and un-plugged the UPS. I got the four beeps that let you know it's on battery backup, but no power out of any of the battery outlets.

Ok, I just plugged a lamp into the battery backup side, and unplugged the UPS from the outlet. It runs the lamp just fine. Whats up with that?? Even with the UPS unplugged, and the lamp being powered just fine, the radio will not come on if I plug it in to the battery outlets.

I returned the UPS to the store and bought a different brand. The unit would also not power on occasionally. I have bought three APC brand UPS's over the years, and two have been faulty.
