clearly, I have no USB connection, but rather a LAN connection
AND
the LAN connection is fine as I have no problems to receive Internet data
my Kaspersky Pure considers APC tools reliable
I have ever had the PowerChute Personal Edition v3, and the issue started this week
the hardware seems wholly functional as if I remove the wall socket my PC doesn't shut down
ideas?

alrighty - just make sure that its not using a USB hub
nope, there is no USB hub here, but a regular back (main) USB socket

Update: I uninstalled Powerchute 3, thinking that a reinstallation would have been useful, but it isn't because the installation wizard doesn't see any battery backup so it stops ...

you need to have the USB data cable connected between your computer and the UPS. the "LAN" connection I think you mean is the RJ-45 connection at one end of the [AP9827 cable|http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP9827] (that should be connected to the "data port" which i'd just double check since some units have dataline protection right next to the data port). if that is connected properly, i'd see if you could reboot the UPS and your computer, try different USB ports, and also check device manager in the control panel to see if your OS recognizes the UPS, where as the software doesn't appear to.
hope that helps to get you started. if not, please let us know your exact UPS model from the white sticker on the unit so we know what we are dealing with here. thanks!

My dear i picKed a winna
the cable included with the hardware, i.e. BR800I, is a double RJ-45, not a USB-to-RJ-45 and anyway it worked smoothly until a week ago ...

hi claudio,
here is the user's guide -> http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z7V5B_R0_EN.pdf
all backups use that cable i sent you so i am not sure what you are using. please refer to step #5 on the 1st page of PDF listed above. let's first make sure you have the correct cable even though this was working before.

Hi Picked
sorry for the mess, but on 22 AUG I was really gone soft in the head after a hard working year!
now, after a few days of vacation, I realized that I have that USB to RJ45 cable, indeed ...
LOL
so I think that the culprit may be a faulty cable or a faulty USB socket, as it sometimes work and sometimes doesn't
I'll let you know if I understand if it's the cable or the socket
kind regards
Claudio

alrighty - just make sure that its not using a USB hub that sometimes comes unplugged or something like that which may be difficult to pinpoint.
