Hi,
I'm looking to buy my first UPS, I have 2 servers that I would like to be protected, and gracefully shutdown after powerloss. I looked over some manuals, but none of them made it clear which model has this feature. Does all Smart-UPS models support this feature?
I see some of them have serial port for communication, can I assume models with this port support auto shutdown? If so, would the cable needed be included in the package or has to be bought separately? Would regular serial connection cable do the job?
Also what about the software, is it included in the package or has to be bought separately?
Thanks
Jim

Most everything would be included with the UPS. The trick here is you want to shut down 2 servers. In order to do that, you will need an interface expander card (AP9607CB) along w/ the Smart-UPS. This is so you can have a physical serial connection to both servers.
If you plan to expand in the future, you may want to even look at getting a larger scale UPS and a Network Management Card. (AP9617) This will allow you to not only manage and configure your UPS on the network, but do shutdowns to as many servers as you could attach to the UPS.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation, it would be annoying to buy the UPS and found out I had to buy some extra stuff to make it work as intended.
For the 2 servers thing, I remember seeing some suggestions on this forum on using script to shutdown the other servers, e.g. the software on the server connected to the UPS can execute a script which would remotely shutdown other servers, would that work?
Thanks
Jim

Sure, the software that comes with it allows you to run a command file as well. Just make sure you have the switch / router / whatever in regards to network configuration on a battery backup as well or you'll lose network communication. 😃
