SURT8000RMXLT-1TF5/PDU/NetShelter AR3100
Hi!
I'm planning to buy the following.
- SURT8000RMXLT-1TF5: APC Step-Down Transformer RM 2U 208V IN 120V OUT; w/5-20 Receptacles
- AR3100: NetShelter rack
- Basic 0U PDU with 24 120V outlets
The PDU will connect to the SURT8000RMXLT-1TF5. 108/120V equipment will connect to the PDU.
The equipment include the following.
- 1 x IBM x3650 server
- 3 x IBM x3550 servers
- 1 xIBM DS3200 drive array
- 2 xCisco WS-C3560G-48PS-S PoE switches
- 1 xCisco 2851-CCME/K9 router
Please suggest a PDU that will work for this setup.
Since the stepdown transformer's output is 5-20R, if the total power required for the IBM/Cisco equipment is over 20A do I have to split them to 2 separate PDU?

Danny,
The #1 problem you're going to run into is load balancing. The PDU's themselves are only capable of approximately 3.5kVA.
The other problem you're going to run into is that the PDU's that output NEMA 5-20R's have an input cord (required) of NEMA L5-20P, due to the capacity of the PDU and NEC code.
Therefore it's going to be impossible to get a PDU to attach to that XFMR that is 5-20 in, 5-20 out.
