I recently inherited a new role in which I now manage all of our Smart UPS’s. We have multiple SU5000R5TBX120’s and each one has an AP9617 installed. When verifying that I could connect to all of the UPS’s, I came across one in which I was not able to access the web interface. I was able to telnet and directly connect with a serial cable and I noticed something different than with the others ones in which the web interface does work.
When directly connected and selecting option 2 (Network), I noticed that I am missing options 6 – 11 on the UPS that does not allow me to connect to the web interface so it I have no way to enable or disable to web interface. I also noticed that the status unlike the other UPS’s reads P+ N+ A-. I’m new to this so I took a look at the manual and I found that A- has to do with a bad checksum, however I do not know how to proceed in resolving this issue.
Thanks

Thanks! OK, it is as I suspected. The instructions in that knowledge base can be used for manual FTP. You'll want to log in via FTP to the AP9617 and "put" the apc_hw02_sumx_372.bin file on the card, disconnect from it, it will reboot, and then check it a few minutes later and see what you get.

Thanks Angela. I get "The Page Can't Be Displayed" in IE and "The Webpage Is Not Available" in Chrome when I try to access the web interface. Thanks for providing the firmware file as I was not sure which one to select.

Hmm OK. We'll try this and see if then we can view via telnet and/or serial the configuration options to see if web is disabled or is set to HTTPS or a non-standard port. Worst case, we could also try resetting to defaults if all of that does not address it.

Angela, I was able to run the upgrade, although at the end, I did receive an error which was provided in a text file. However, I was able to telnet into the UPS and now I do have the web option and it was enabled, with the standard port 80. However when attempting to access the web interface, I not get the error, "The Application Was Not Able To Load"
Using AOS file : AOS = apc_hw02_aos_373.bin
Using Application file: APP = apc_hw02_sumx_372.bin
Checking network connection ... Checking version information ...

Before Upgrading the NMC the AOS is: apc_hw02_aos_264.bin

Can you tell or show me what you see under the System->About System menu? Sometimes the wizard fails just based on the timing of trying to ping the card after transferring a file. I think that might be what happened here so it aborted loading the second firmware file that you need.
I have a feeling that just manually FTPing the apc_hw02_sumx_372.bin file to the NMC and letting it reboot will fix this. What I asked for under About System menu will confirm that though for me.

WOW!!!!! Thanks Angela. That did the trick. I can now access the web interface. If you don't mind, one final questions. When upgrading the firmware, would you suggest trying to use the executable, or simply doing it manually via FTP (AOS file first, then Sumx file). I have about 15 more of the same UPS's and I figure I might as wall upgrade them all to the latest firmware.

Hi Edward,
You're welcome! Glad it is all set. I think you should try another one and see what you get with the wizard. You can also review the article below on "mass upgrades" assuming they are all Smart-UPS and not different device types (since then they'd require different firmware). When the wizard works, it's good but you could very well run into a timing issue like this where the wizard aborts because the card took 2 seconds too long to reboot. This wizard is not too sophisticated .
Worst case, if you wanted to just FTP them all, then you'd know you'd be in charge of the process rather than having to FTP the second file later anyway when the wizard checks and logs in to continue too early.
Link to how to mass upgrade (refer to the iplist.txt method with NMC1): http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156099
Let me know if you have any questions!

I'll give the wizard another try, but at least you taught me how to do it manually as well. Thank you so much for your help.
