A cheaper alternative to the card is the serial cable and NUT which integrates well with any flavour of Linux. You can pick up the cables on eBay or make your own.

Personally you cannot beat the network management cards for the APC UPS, you can pick them up cheap enough on eBay.

Hi,
It would be helpful to know what version of Linux you are running to make the proper recommendation.
As for the AP9606 unless you only what to access the UPS over the Internet I do not recommend that card. If you are looking for a card that is compatible with PowerChute Network Shutdown or if you plan to run APCUPSD using PCNET you should find a AP9617 at a minimum.

Hello Bill,
Thank you for the good reply and really sorry for missing to come back! I somehow deleted the email notification for the thread.
Currently I run CentOS6 as host os/ plan to move to debian/ubuntu at some point/, VM guest running debian9/ubuntu16 and OpenWRT / plan to move to lede/ . So if I go for network card I should be okay. If i go for serial cable, I need to stay compatible with CentOS6 running linux kernel 2...
I would be interested to get out of the APC device
- Device Health - are batteries okay, are there errors etc. I'm not visiting the room often.
- Event information / trigger over the internal network - somehow to catch an event when the device is below 30% for example, so I should initiate shut down of my boxes...
Looking forward to your advice on what card or cable may be beneficial to look for.
Regards,
Pavel

hey guys,
i've got the same old good SU2200INET model, and i'm freaking out with the serial cable pinout. cannot find the one that will allow getting the info from the unit.
tried to make my own, made the 940-0024C by this diagram https://alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/nut-upsuser/2005-August/000118.html - and 940-1524D by that diagram https://pinoutguide.com/UPS/apc_smart_cable_pinout.shtml
no luck with both.
does anybody got the right pinout for SU2200INET ?
