Recommended setup? Smart UPS 1000XL

I have a 1000XL (800 watt) + 1 - 24VXL battery pack

I also have a surge protector that has a much higher Joule rating than the UPS.
Is it OK for me to plug my UPS into my surge protector?
Or should the UPS be plugged directly into my wall outlet?
