Hi Folks,
It's unclear from the installation docs whether or not this card is hot-pluggable ( well, the card is but...) is the unit? I am looking to install it in a SMT3000 we recently purchased, does the unit need to be powered down or into something called bypass mode?? And if bypass mode, what effect does that have on the unit? Is it an "offline" event? In other words, do I need to power down any connected devices?
As always, many thanks in advance.
Buddy

Bill;
Does "hot swappable" mean that I can remove and re-install the APC963X cards when the green/amber lights are active on the card - under any condition of the UPS (on-line, on battery power, etc.) and any UPS model?

Hi Buddy,
Yes, you may remove and reseat the APC963x cards while the UPS and the NMC is in any state.

Thank you all, I've installed the card successfully. I've also run an ethernet cable from one of our core switches in order to set up and configure the card with an IP address, etc.
Would you happen to have a doc that explains this process? I seem to recall NOT to plug the console in on a "live" unit or bad things happen. Can I access the card over the network cable? I can't seem to locate the info for default ip and account ( apc/apc, perhaps?).
As always, thanks.
Buddy

Hi Buddy,
Our NMC2 TCP/IP settings setup information is in the user's guide but our knowledge base is a little more detailed here on set up -> http://www.schneider-electric.us/support/index?page=content&country=US〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156064
You can connect both ethernet cable and console cable to the NMC2 while everything is running. I am not aware of any limitations on connecting either of these cables while a device is live, assuming you connect the appropriate serial cables. Connecting non-standard serial cables can cause a UPS, for example, to turn off because of the pinout. Other than that, I can't think of any other scenarios where I wouldn't recommend this.
NMC2's default to DHCP only by default using apc/apc so there is no default IP. So, if you have a DHCP server, you can maybe check its client list to figure out the IP address, knowing APC devices have a MAC that starts with 00 C0 B7. DHCP option 12 mentioned in the article above may also be an option for you. If you have a UPS with an LCD display, you may be able to find the IP within the advanced menu as well.

Thanks again, Angela. We have DHCP configured on a separate subnet so I think moving the ethernet cable from the APC unit to that subnet will be easiest, let it get an IP via DHCP and then I can access it and configure. I can then bring it back once it's configured with the desired IP.
As always, thank you for the assistance.
Buddy

We get him back in 3 - 4 weeks, I'll bet. Could have been ALOT worse. Hopefully the dog whisperer will be able to help us out, we'll see.
