basic IEC61850 Question

Hi Everyone!

I will be proposal new system for my customer.

but I don't know whether it will be come true or not.

I’m IEC61850 beginner.

Customer site system was made by Siemens HMI s/w which name "SICAM PAS CC". now SICAM communicate Siemens relay using IEC61850.

I will be proposal ION7650 Power quality meter.

Keypoint SICAM HMI<---IEC61850--->ION7650(SagSwell / Transient wave)

A.  I would like to know if SICAM HMI can get a ION7650 CID File available?

B.  Especially Can it transfer ION7650 Sag/Swell & Transient wave file to the SICAM HMI available?

Hello Sung-Keun,

A. You should not have any issues bringing data from the ION7650 into SICAM HMI with proper ICD file.

B. IEC61850 allows file extraction from IEDs, however I'm not sure if this has been implemented into into ION.

ION7650 provide data to other host using IEC61850 protocol only those simple data from registers (MMXU) like V, I, kW, kWh, Harmonics, input status,  but the waveforms called complex data is proprietary (for ION protocol only) the same thing with other protocol like DNP 3, Modbus, etc. those protocols does not explain or support  how to read the complex data like waveform and data logger.

The ION7650 supports COMTRADE format waveform data files to make sag/swell and transient data available in a more common format. When enabled, the COMTRADE waveform files are posted to the meter's internal ftp site, and you can also use the IEC 61850 RDRE logical node to indicate that a new COMTRADE file is available for transfer from the meter's internal FTP site. You can enable COMTRADE format waveform records using ION Setup and going to the Power Quality section of the setup assistant. Set the COMTRADE Status value to "Enabled" for both the sag/swell and transient tabs. By default the record depth is 1 which you can increase if you want to be able to store more than one COMTRADE record.

There is a COMTRADE and ION Technology technical note that provides more information about the COMTRADE files generated by your meter. You can get this document by going to www.schneider-electric.com and searching "COMTRADE and ION technology".
