Port forwarding for ION 7650

Hi All

Due to network restriction, i am connecting 5nos ION 7650 to the network using a router.

All of the 7650s are connected to the router's LAN ports, all of them having same subnet mask.

Tried ping the meters using the ping tools inside the router without problems.

The router WAN port connected to a network switch.

The 7650s are using 7700 port for communication with PME using ION protocol, port forward setting in the router are set to port 100 to port 104 for the 5 meters.

1st 7650 port 7700 -> router port 100

2nd 7650 port 7700 -> router port 101

...

5th 7650 port 7700 -> router port 104

A server with PME 8.2 connected to the same network switch and can ping the router.

After added the meters and tried to connect, it shows connection failure..

The firewall in the router and server are OFF.

I did follows the https://www.schneider-electric.com/en/faqs/FA212019/

for the setting, but no luck..

Anyone can help?

The meters have old firmware (7650V322), would it be the cause?

Thanks!

Arthur

Hi

Yes, the problem is solved.

After setting the portforward in the router, we found that the gateway setting in the 7650 also need to set to router's LAN IP and the port forward is working.

Hi @Anonymous user, Have you contacted the technical support team for this question? I am sure they will be able to assist you on the troubleshooting of the communication link.

I don't see a reason for it not to work, although I do recommend you to update the firmware of these devices, there are severam improvements and bugfixes released since version 322.

Thanks,

Fabricio

Firmware is not likely the casue. Rather than ping, try to telnet to the IP address/ip

ex: telnet 1.2.3.4 7704

If connection is possible you would see a blank screen.

Did you ping the ION IP ADD on the server?

Thanks!

I checked the port on both router WAN and LAN side.

For LAN side, the blank screen is shown for port 7700

For WAN side, it seems the port is not opened..

I enable the DMZ setting in router but still the port cannot be connected.

i tried 2 different router but the result still same..

Thanks!

I checked the port.

Seems the port from ION7650 7700 cannot forward to an external port..

I tried using another MODBUS device to forward port 502 to an external port in the same router LAN with similar setting, i can connect to the MODBUS device using the external port with the router IP in 3rd party polling tools.

Hi,

  Ask help to the IT person on the site, the problem is not on the meter, but on their network, if they given you the IP for the ION meter and You are sure that you configured it properly, Thre should be no problem anymore.

Please find Attached.

Things to consider.

IP ADD:

SUBNET:

DNS:

On the other side, try to access the ION using IE or any browser.  Update Us.

Good Luck,

Hi

Thanks for the hints.

Because of the IP limitation (only 1 ip is available), we can only use router instead of switch..

To test on the meters, i directly connect a test PC with PME8.2 to the router's WAN port to bypass the client's operating network.

The PC and router can ping each other.

Now the connections are as follows

PME8.2 PC -> router WAN port

5nos ION 7650 -> router LAN port

I tried enabled the DMZ setting in router for testing 1 of the 7650 and using the port forward setting same as above but the result are still same..

I used IE to connect the meter, it can shows the meters measurement. The web service in the meters are enabled.

Hi Arthur,

Has this been sorted out?

We've had a similar site where only the routers ip address was visible to the network and behind it we have 4 x ION7650. To sort this out, in Management console we've changed the default ports from 7700 to 7701 for the first device up to 7704 for the forth device and put the same ip address (of the router). Then, in the router, the client did the port forwarding so that the request on port 7701 was going to the first meter, port 7702 to the 2nd meter and so on.
