Hi Team!
I have a customer that have a wonderware system in his facility. We have 20 meters connected to a Wonderware system and the customer want install a PME server in other computer in the same network.
This is possible? This doubt is with regards to have two master´s PME and Wonderware in the same network.
Thank you very much for your valuable support

Hi, this is a metering hardware and communication network question... can the metering devices and gateway devices support being multi-mastered from supervisory software? Really does not matter too much what type of supervisory software... although some software may make very frequent requests to the devices which reduces the overall response times when in a multi-master scenario. So to answer this question, you need to know the type of meters and the communication topology (daisychains and gatways vs Ethernet direct connection - with multi-master capabilities?

Thank you for you kindly answer!
Well with regards to the meters and communications topology we have 20 PM5000 four of these meters works as a gateway connected directly to a switch the rest of them are slave of these 4 gateways. Additional we have 8 PM8000 connected directly to another switch via ethernet
Then the idea is get data for the meters into the two systems PME and Wonderware. We can do this array with this topology and meters?
Regards.

Hi Victor,
There should be no problem multi-mastering those devices, i.e. connecting in both PME and Wonderware. Assuming the devices are spread evenly, it would imply you have only 4 x PM5000 devices per Modbus gateway, which should allow for good communication performance with 2 masters.
Since the PM8000 meters are all connected via Ethernet, PME will be able to use ION protocol, which allows all features to be accessed, and Wonderware will be able to connect on port 502 to each and request Modbus holding registers. Performance will be optimal, as these will be dedicated communication channels too.
Regards,
Douglas
