Hi All,
We have a client who suspects issues with harminics on large mechanical plant on site.
We have been seeing them as a propect for normal energy metering retrofit & PME for some time now, but nothing eventuated yet.
They now believe they may have issues with underperforming passive filters...
In lieu of hiring high speed waveform & data loggers they are now asking us if fitting PM8000's can help identify their issues. (and they then keep them permantly afterwards) so they can get the right accusine harmonic filter or similar.
My thougts are that it would not be my first choice solution, as i would rather see all the waveforms through start-up and continious run & load step changes over a week or so, whereas the PM8000 will only log waveforms by exception / event, however we could get some interval log data out that would be useful.
Would appreciate anyones opinion or similar experiences.

Hi Grant,
The PM8000 has enough available additional data recorders and waveform recorders perform as a data logger, To configure it to do a specific form of data logging will require knowledge of ION Meter Module programming generally done with the Designer app in PME.
Triggering the recorders could be done via a physical signal ihnto one of the PM8000 digital inputs or by monitoring for a change of state such as an increase in current or power.
As of the next firmware release (V2.0 1st qtr 2019) the PM8000 will support the "burst mode" recording of the data recorder which allows for pre/post trigger numeric data recording. Inputs to such a recorder could be the voltage harmonic values etc. The same trigger to cause a wave form recorder to capture voltage/current waveforms at an appropriate sampling rate.
Analysis of captured data can be done in PME9,0.
Regards,
Jim

Hello Jim
he have the same issue.
we need get the Voltage/Current waveform when we get a event in grid.
like:
I>>
I<<
U>>
U<<
This is swag a swell in voltage and current, like you can see in attached picture
However, we need to connect the trips from switch-gear protection relay to start the waveform recording when we have trips in relay and also when the switch opens.
The trips could be:
f<<
f>>
Uo>>
I0>>
S>>
Do you have an example to configure the PM8000 to receive triggers from inputs and that we can implemented the waveform logging (before and after event)?
Thank you
Miguel Santos

Hello @Mike78 ,
The world of ION is highly customizable. Likely you would want to use a pulse merge module to combine all possible triggers, then feed this to the waveform recorder. For example, digital input modules have a trigger pulse output that can be used to trigger a waveform. The inputs from multiple digital inputs would be feed into a pulse merge module and the output of the pulse merge module feed into the existing waveform recorder framework.

Charles

Hello Charles
Thank you for you reply
I already did it using designer (PME application). A very tricky application but functional.
seems to be work.
