We have four PM8000 meters in our lab. Two of them will not except communication over Port 502. The only obvious issue I can see is that the two that are not able to do Modbus coms have newer firmware.
All are being done over IP directly. Each device has address 1. All can be addressed with ION Setup and via their web page.
It may be a red herring but here is the list
Meter Firmware Readable
QED 001.003.001 No
DEMO 001.003.001 No
Meter Firmware
MCC 001.002.014 Yes
Cart 001.000.057 Yes
The first two will not return register reads with Tester or a ComX 5100 The third and forth work with both.
Is there anything else we should check. Should I back set them to older firmware.
Thanks,
Michael

The 1.3.1 firmware fixed a a few Modbus & communications issues and also added IPv6 Support
(What's new here: PM8000 series firmware v1.3.1 what's new)
If port 502 is enabled as @Andrew Garbutt in the post above, are there any IPv6 settings in your environment that could be affecting things?
Does the meter communicate for a while but then stop?

Perhaps the protocol was disabled? For the PM8000, you can individually enable/disable various protocols from ION Setup, or through the Ethernet Comm module in Designer.
