This is my customer question.

Regarding Modbus communication update period time rate.

How about the PM2230 or PM5350 Modbus register update time?

(Regardless of the server PC communication or connected PC)

Hi Kim,

Modbus communication update period time – following attributes or variables impacts the update time,

1. Typical case: If only one device is connected to the software and let’s say user wants to poll only 10 parameters from the device, with 19.2kpbs speed it takes approximately 25 milliseconds to send data packet. However parameter values of PM2000 & PM5350 device updates every one second both on its display and through communication register..… that means in one second interval, software receives the data packet 40 times even though the values are same.
2. The update time varies depending on the number of parameters chosen for polling. Typically 100 parameters from one device should not take more than 200 milliseconds during one to one communication system
3. If the number of RTU devices are many and when user is trying to poll more number of parameters in complex communication network, the update time might vary from 1 sec to multiple of minutes (wide and large area network….. type of cable used for RS485, OFC cable, LAN network, number of gateways and repeaters, mix of devices from different makes etc.,)
4. Type of Software used: multi tasking, monitoring alone or with controlling functions
5. Computer specification:  processor speed, standalone of multi-purpose.

Please refer the recommended requirements of server system and communication cable's in the technical publications to optimize the update period time rate. period time rate. the update period time rate.
