Is PoE on field equipment uncommon?
I need to set up an industrial Ethernet switch, but I'm not sure if we'll use PoE for field devices in the future. We currently do not use any.
Thank You.

I use various laser profilometers & cameras as PoE. I also on occasion will use a PoE splitter to get power to a non PoE device which is nice if you want to minimize what's running through a drag chain or robot dress pack. It's a nice to have right now definitely not a need to have. One last thing make sure maintenance understands PoE and has spares for injectors, switches, and splitters

PoE is starting to appear on the valve actuators (re:SP90), power is needed to be injected every 7 to 10 devices. Specific cables are used to connect and daisy chain devices, IP water ingress protection is partly the reason for the specific cables.
