Hi
What is the exact difference between PICV and PIBCV?
In the SE product portfolio, it's called PIBCV and other manufacturers use to call as PICV. So, is any technical difference between them, or are both the same?
Regards

PIBVC = Pressure Independent Balancing and Control Valve
PICV = Pressure Independent Control Valve
Often the terms are used interchangeably but in essence a PIBCV includes the functionality of a traditional balance valve to set and read the maximum flow rate through the valve independent of system pressure.

There are other terminologies in use too:
PICCV - Pressure Independent Characterized Control Valve.
EPIV - Electronic Pressure Independent Control Valve
But in essence, they serving the same function of stabilizing the flow, regardless of upstream pressure, But, the adjustment of the maximum flow is what makes the valve also function as a balancing valve. Pretty well all valves on the market allow for this max flow balancing adjustment but only a few manufacturers use the abbreviation.
Schneider decided to market the B in SpaceLogic PIBCV as hydronic balancing is a key fundamental requirement that makes a building energy efficient. Further, not being able to balance where the energy is being distributed in a building is the main source of occupant complaints.
PICV is also easer to say PIBCV, this is also something to do with why the terminology has been adopted elsewhere in the market. KISS, IMO at least !
