searchable custom property on a room

Customer has CI value for rooms (as well as other assets).  How can I apply these to DCO 8.0 rooms and have them searchable via UI?

Searchable via the API without knowing the CI is a room?

I can see I can apply the Custom Property to a room and I can search for it via the Web client (nice feature, thanks)  but how do I search for it in the Java UI?  I can see that the CP is used in "Configure Custom Properties" but can't find a way to locate it, also tried Navigator and Equipment Browser

Anyone got an idea?
