Hello,
We're using RFC1918 space for most of our monitored infrastructure. and we'd like to be able to add our own /etc/hosts so alerts are more descriptive than just IP address.
How can this be accomplished?

John,
This can be remedied by pointing your DCE server's DNS network settings to your own internal DNS server(s) that has both the forward and reverse DNS entries for the private IP space you are using. We do this within several of my employers different facilities both 10.x.x.x & 192.x.x.x and even some 172.x.x.x addresses that fall into the private IP spectrum and within DCE we see the DNS hostnames for the managed devices not just the IP address.
Also for the alert issue if you make sure and have the device name & location listed in the individual device's SNMP config (Name & Location) it will pull that into the alert email.

Hi John Wieczorek,
Unfortunately this is impossible, since according to k-base FA222410:
Because the system is customized, APC and Schneider Electric do not allow customers access to the back end of the system. StruxureWare Data Center Expert is an appliance and should be considered a "black box" or closed system. We do not provide the root password for theses systems.

and we'd like to be able to add our own /etc/hosts so alerts are more descriptive than just IP address.
A good answer about this is found here: .
I am always glad to help.
