Serial Number in DCO 7.4.5

With the upgrade to 7.4.5 there is now a serial number field on the General tab for a device.  However we have the serial number field in the Properties (Custom) tab which also includes a unique and mandatory check on it.

  • How can we move the values from serial number in Properties (Custom) tab to serial number field on the General tab?
  • Does the serial number field on the General tab have a unique and mandatory check on it?

Hi James,

There has been no additional features applied to the serial number field.

It is possible to capture a serial number in the new introduced field. There are no way to move existing serial numbers in custom properties into the new field automatically. Currently it must be a manual process. Also the field has no check on if it is unique or mandatory.

I will track the feature of moving an existing custom property into the serial number property field as a feature request.

In regards to unique-ness I guess that is not always what you want? I guess the serial number might be the same from different vendors? Also the mandatory field could you elaborate a bit on that, since I guess you would only like it to be mandatory on some type of equipment?

Soren,

For the serial number field we have a unique check on it to try and eliminate any errors.  I have never seen a serial number the same on two different devices from two different manufacturers so its not a problem that has occurred (not saying it might not happen).  It would be good to have the option to turn it on or off as per the Configure Custom Properties tab.

The other problem we have now is there are three Serial Number fields,

  1. On the General Tab
  2. From ITO devices
  3. On the Custom Properties tab

We had to add the Custom Properties one due to the lack of the field in the program originally.

Hi James, Thank you for elaborating this is valuable input. I will track all your comments in the request. It is not possible for me to tell when this will make it into the program but it will be tracked and thereby also very likely find its way in a future release.
