Rack Access PX-HID AP9361

Hi All,

Not strictly a DCIM-related question but wondered if anyone had experience of the configuration of the APC PX-HID system AP9361. Can't find any answers to these in the product documents.

I am familiar with the Netbotz 570 / Access Pod 170 system, but trying to decide which of the two systems is the best option to use for a 40-rack deployment including DCE & DCO.

Had a few questions on the AP9361:

1 - When configuring an HID card (a set of users) for an AP9361, can that configuration be shared amongst multiple racks like the Netbotz equivalent? If not, this won't be a good option as configuring the same users card 40x times on each rack isn't a clean option.

2 - If the configuration can be shared between AP9361, how is this done? Don't really like the idea of needing to manually share a config.ini file across multiple devices, is there a method in the interface of the AP9361 to group multiple devices together?

3 - Finally, is there any global control functionality in DCE for the AP9361? - Such as remote open etc

Thanks

Hi David,

Mike answered the config part. DCE can do it (direct config or with a template), it can use radius ( Free radius only, k-base FA156100) or, as you're aware and apparently don't want to do, share the config.ini. A caveat about the ini which DCE does also push to configure this device, If all 20 card slots are full, they must be refilled with blanks before they can be associated with a new card.

As for remotely unlocking the door, there is the UI, you can use DCE to command the door to unlock, or you can use SNMP. Not sure what you meant by globally, only one command at a time. You can't say for instance  "unlock all doors" unless you create a command file using individual SNMP sets to do so. Please note you can not use SNMP when using the rack access pod 170 and higher level NetBotz appliances.

Hi David,

As you are using DCE you can configure a single Rack Access kit with all the HID cards and then use this as a template within DCE using the APC SNMP device configuration tab then the create template option and select the required fields that will apply to all devices such as DNS settings, registered cards e.t.c. save this then select configure from template and apply this to all the relevant rack access kits.

If you use a RADIUS server for door access this can be utilized so building HID cards can be used and authenticated.

Hope this helps

Mike

HI Steve! What do you mean when you wrote about creating a command file? Is there feature that allow to run some scripts on DCE?

Hi Valentin, No, I was referring to outside of DCE. For instance, you could create an SNMP command line option using something like the utilities found on sourceforge: http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/tutorial/tutorial-5/commands/snmpset.html You can create a batch or command file that runs multiple commands as seen on that page. This would be up to you . Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for your explanation. Yes, I meant to ask whether the AP9631 could be remotely unlocked from DCE via SNMP, 'global' was a poor choice of words 🙂 I think we'll go down the route of a 570 with 170 sensor pods - the idea is to make configuration as straight-forward as possible for the end users, there will be a number of them and they will want to configure multiple racks at once.
