DCO UPS configuration

Hello,

Our customer has 2 questions about UPS configuration.

They has 8, 500 kW UPS. 4 of them are used for A-power and 4 of them are used for B-power. So they has 2N redundancy.

First question is, we can't show this configuration in DCO. I have to create an 2000 kW UPS and connect that UPS to PDU. Is there any other way to show this configuration? Can't we connect 4 UPS into 1 PDU? Is there any other workaround?

Second question is, on the dashboard, they see that they have 4 megawatts of energy. However, they use only 2 megawatts of energy. Other 2 megawatts used for redundancy. Can't we configure the dashboard for redundancy?(What I meant for the dashboard is 4 charts of the main screen, power, cooling, rack u-space etc.)

Thanks in advance,

(CID:153093149)

Hi Erhan,

Multiple UPS units cannot be connected to one PDU. I guess you/customer have a parallel UPS setup, which is directly not supported in DCO. If the UPSs are in parallel, then I think your work-around (combined UPS setup as one) seems to be the possible solution.

The Power info displayed in Capacity circle/dashboard, is representing the total available power capacity and cannot be configured, so if we have 8 x 500 kW UPS's in the setup, then the total power capacity would be 4 MW.

Kind regards

You are reserving 2 MW for redundancy in advance, but DCO does the remaining capacity calculation differently, it reserves the full load on both A and B feed (typically half as estimated load and half as failover load) as you connects equipment.

This means, that it requires the full capacity (all 4MW) and once you have connected 2MW as 2N the remaining capacity is 0W (2MW as estimated load and 2MW as failover load). The benefit of doing the calculation this way is in cases where someone mixes N and 2N setups, then the remaining capacity will still show what is available, provided they use it with similar N and 2N setups.

All in all, the percentage in the "capacity circle" is going to be the same, if you use your way or the "DCO way" of calculating the remaining capacity.
