DCE and DCO migration

Hi team,

we have to migrate the virtual machines of a customer from one virtual environment to another. They say that they cannot keep the same IP address in both virtual machines in the new environment. If we change the IP addresses in both virtual machines, are we going to loss all the device associations in DCO?

Additionally we have to upgrade the current DCO and DCE to the latest versions of ITA and DCE.  So for DCE, should we have to deploy a new virtual machine in the new environment with DCE 7.9.0 and restore the backup from the old DCE 7.8.x? We will have the license problem because the MAC would change, but we could ask for a new license to our local support. I think it would be better to create new virtual machines in the new environment with the latest versions of DCE and ITA and restore the backups, than migrate the current virtual machines and then upgrade them.  Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Javier

No, changing IP addresses should not cause any problems with your associations. Once ITA and DCE IP's are changed, then in the ITA desktop client, edit the existing entry for the DCE server and change the server IP address if present. If the entry was using the hostname, then as long as the hostname/DNS is updated then things should be fine.

If the mac address of the DCE server is changed, then yes your associations will be lost.

Regards

Hi Greg,

we have done the upgrade from DCE 7.6.0 to 7.8.1 without problems. After that we have deployed a new DCE 7.9.0 with the same MAC Address that the previous server. Now we have a problem with the restore of the backup from version 7.8.1 to this new server.

We have two different backups, one with the configuration and another with the full data, and when we restore some of them in DCE 7.9.0 it seems that works, but when it finishes apparently correctly, DCE 7.9.0 is empty, with the same configuration that it had previously (only the backup location to restore)

@jzurera, We are trying to do the same thing. Can you please share some insights and steps that we can follow in order to migrate? Did you manage to migrate all your configuration and data to the new server?

Hello. I would recommend you use the https://app.ecostruxureit.com/request/ portal to open a general request ticket for DCE so the customer care team can help you with your migration from DCE 7.8.1 to 7.9.0. They will have the details you need to complete the migration.

Regards
