I would like to work on a project on my laptop when travelling rather than the production instance.
Do I need to purchase a license that is equivalent to the project Point count for offline development?
Currently when I try to add a new point I get a Point count exception (Project has 12000+ points Laptop has 1000 point demo - default install). Interestingly the project runs fine until I try to add new points.
How best to approach this?

As you've found, it'll run fine with whatever point count it currently has (within the trial timeout), but you're unable to add more points. If you don't need to add points, then perhaps this will suffice.
If you can truncate a whole bunch of the database to get you below 1000 points with your new development additions, you could do this also (i.e. if it's a water network, you don't need all the other sites, they could get deleted... only create the points for your new site.. it's all you'd import into product).
The other possibility if you're a Schneider Partner / certified System Integrator is to request a temporary license for this development work. They can normally issue 30 day licenses for this kind of activity.
But you'll need to contact your local Schneider sales office for this, and if you're not procuring Schneider software frequently then they may not extend such a courtesy to you.. in which case you'd may indeed need to fork out for a matching license to do development.

They sell a development license on of my customers has one. It is cheaper than a standard license and I believe it has to be renewed yearly. I believe it also has a runtime limit something like 10 hours.
