Configuring Virtual ViewX for ViewX comms

Hello all,

I am using a trial version of Geo SCADA Expert 2022 in order to become familiar with the software. We may have use for it with future products, in which we will seek a proper license.

My current set up is two virtual machines ("SCADA" and "HMI") on the same network. I have a SCADAPack E-series currently talking to the ViewX client on the SCADA vm and now I would like to access the Mimic via Virtual ViewX from the HMI vm.

The ViewX virtual machine and server are fully set up. My issue is with configuring the Virtual ViewX server on the other virtual machine. I am not sure how the VirtualViewXServer Server and the Geo SCADA Expert Client should be set up in order to log in with the browser to view the mimic from the ViewX server.

I've watched many SE videos and have read just as much documentation without finding (or understanding?) a solution. I am currently referring to the "EcoStruxure™ Geo SCADA Expert Virtual ViewX Troubleshooting Guide How to resolve Virtual ViewX issues" but I'm still missing something.

Anyway, any help greatly appreciated. This is my first post, so happy to join the conversation regarding SE products.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Edit: Slight progress! I have both server's "Node A" pointing to GeoSCADA at port 5481 and the browser pointing to port 8080 of the VirtualViewX instance.
I can now see the Virtual View X loading screen within the browser when I try to log in with a "test_acct" that I created (most permissions granted and it is included in operator, engineer, and admin Groups).
The new issue is:
"localhost:8080 says
Application load failed: Unspecified error"
From the VirtualViewXAuthentication.log file:
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: LogOn( [IN] userName = 'test_acct' )
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: Sending request - requestCode = 500
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: LogOn( [OUT] )
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: Dispose( [IN] disposing = True )
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: Disposing ScxComClient
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: Disconnecting link in ScxComClient
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: [PL3414:CL1] Virtual link disconnecting
		2023-02-21 07:51:37: [PL3414] Changed to state 'Disconnected'
You'll have to contact sales and request trial licenses.
You need the Database Server licensed and the Virtual ViewX server licensed.
Then from the HMI machine you will be able to access the Virtual ViewX using a HTML5 browser.
Hi Geoffpatton,
I have received trial licenses for both the Database Server and the Virtual ViewX server and have both up. My issue is setting up the VVX <-> VX comms now. It may be a profile issue, but I just wish there were a walk through that explained the process better than what I have found.
As far as I can remember once Virtual ViewX server is licensed it just works with the local ViewX.
The only problem I think I have had is that I installed the Virtual ViewX Server on a separate machine than the Database server and did not realize that I had to license the local ViewX Client as well. The Virtual ViewX server virtualizes multiple instances of the ViewX that is local to the machine it is installed on. The local ViewX has to be licensed and the Configure Connections app setup to connect to the server just like on the database server, other than that maybe set to local host and you need the machine name or ip address of the server on a remote client. If Virtual ViewX server is installed on the same machine as the database server it uses the ViewX that is licensed with the database server.
Setting up web servers and Virtual ViewX in particular has been getting more difficult with the increased complexities of security and infrastructure.  SE have produced new resources to help customers:
Virtual ViewX Troubleshooting Guide
Scripting Setup Guide (Updated)
Setup of ARR Reverse Proxy
I hope these are of help. If you have any feedback please post.
Thanks
Steve
Hey Steve,
I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question (your videos as well). I'll go through these resources that you've provided and see where it takes me.
I'll keep the forum updated.
