Difference between Asset and Energy Hierarchy

Hello all,

I'm in the process of configuring my first Energy Hub system. I have published the gateway topology to Energy Hub, but I'm not clear on what is the difference between the Asset and Energy hierarchy configuration. Can someone help me understand?

Thanks!

Hello,

The difference between the two hierarchies is that the Asset hierarchy defines a where equipment and devices are located and contained while the Energy hierarchy defines where and what a device or metering point is monitoring.  All of the Energy view in Investigate will be automatically set up by configuring the Energy hierarchy.

So let's take an example of a circuit breaker in an LV Switchboard in a building that monitors all of the energy going to the distribution panels on floor 1.

The Asset hierarchy will show the circuit breaker inside the LV Switchboard as a feeder in the building.  By default the Asset hierarchy should already be configured showing what devices are in equipment at the site.

The Energy hierarchy models where the devices are monitoring, and what usage they are monitoring.  So in this example, the energy hierarchy will show the circuit breaker that feeds the entire first floor as a total energy usage on the first floor.  Devices that have a usage assigned to the in the Panel Server will automatically be assigned that same usage in Energy Hub on the Energy hierarchy.  The only additional step will be to contextualize any additional Floors, Zones, etc in the Energy hierarchy as needed to reflect where the devices are monitoring.

Thanks
