Issue
Are SNMP traps in StruxureWare Building Operation sent using UDP or TCP?
Product Line
EcoStruxure Building Operation
Environment
- Building Operation Automation Server
- Building Operation Automation Server Premium
- Building Operation Automation Server Bundled
Cause
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet-standard protocol for managing devices on IP networks. Need to know if SNMP messages are sent over TCP or UDP.
Resolution
SNMP traps in EcoStruxure Building Operation are sent using the UDP protocol.
Additional Information:
- UDP (User Datagram Protocol) is a connectionless protocol that allows for low-latency communication, making it suitable for SNMP traps which require quick delivery without the overhead of establishing a connection.
- TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), on the other hand, is connection-oriented and ensures reliable delivery of packets, but it is not used for SNMP traps in this context.
