Assessments

  The UPS Downtime assessment provides information about avoided downtime occurrences and actual downtime occurrences for your UPS devices.   Data driven insights highlight the importance of properly managing and maintaining data center critical infrastructure and UPS devices.   The data displayed in this assessment depends on UPS device communication with the EcoStruxure IT Gateway and IT Expert. Data is updated daily. To resolve communication issues, see Troubleshoot device communication failures         Filter data by Location, Timeframe, Occurrence type, and Model.   Widgets display data for the selected location, timeframe, and other filters: Downtime occurrences: The UPS did not provide power to the load during a power outage. View the number of Occurrences, the Average duration, and the Total duration. Power Protection occurrences: The UPS provided power to the load during power outages and periods of high voltage, low voltage, or distorted input power. View the number of Occurrences, the Average duration, and the Total duration.   Sub-location ranking: Graph of the selected location's direct sublocations that have the most occurrences. Up to five sublocations are shown.   Timeframe: Click to view a graph of the occurrences for the applied filters. Download the assessment: You can download the assessment as a CSV report or a PDF.

On the Reports > Assessments page, you can download the UPS score, UPS load, Alarm report, and Active life span alarms assessments as CSV files, or generate Device Security Assessment or UPS Assessment reports.   Click Download CSV in the assessment tile to save it.   Click Generate report to download a Device Security Assessment or UPS Assessment report. Note: The UPS Assessment report includes data from both the UPS Score and the UPS Load assessments.        

View assessments in IT Expert on the Reports > Assessments tab.   Improve inefficiencies through insight into the estimated Level 1 Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of your physical infrastructure in the Sustainability assessment.    PUE and DCiE are calculated at the Room level only. Outgoing power from all the UPSs in the room is the indicator of IT load. Metrics are derived from devices and sensor values.    In locations with at least one room and at least one UPS, view the estimated Level 1 PUE and DCiE yearly averages or monthly trends per room over the last 365 days.      PUE   Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is the industry-accepted energy efficiency metric for the physical infrastructure systems that support the IT loads of a data center, for example, power and cooling.  PUE is the total facility power divided by the IT load.   DCiE   Data center infrastructure efficiency (DCiE) is a metric used to determine the energy efficiency of a data center, developed by The Green Grid. It is shown as a percentage, calculated by dividing the IT load by the facility power.    DCiE = IT load / total facility power x 100%   Since exact measurements of utility power are not possible in IT Expert, the Sustainability assessment provides an estimated simple Level 1 PUE and DCiE calculations.   Overview   See the number of rooms in the selected location that have a PUE calculated and are considered Efficient, Average, or Inefficient based on DCiE percentage, limited to 50 rooms per location at this time.   Efficient: DCiE 62.5% or above Average: DCiE 38.5% - 62.5% Inefficient: DCiE below 38.5%   Room details   View the PUE, DCiE, Cooling, and detailed energy load information for the past 365 days for each room in locations with at least one room and at least one UPS.    Calculation factors are Power redundancy, Cooling redundancy, and the Cooling medium. The margin of error shown for PUE ( +/- ) is adjusted depending on the information you provide.   You can toggle between yearly PUE values and monthy trends.     Yearly averages   See yearly averages for up to three full calendar years.       Monthly trends   See monthly trends for the last 36 months. You can compare each year to see other trends, such as seasonal temperature changes.        Detailed energy load information   Cooling: The energy used by cooling equipment in the selected room IT: The energy used by the IT equipment in the selected room. This is used in the PUE calculation. Power: The energy used by the power equipment in the selected room Total energy: The total energy load in the selected room     Improve your estimate   Click Improve your estimate to provide information about the calculation factors that influence estimated efficiency:   Power redundancy: 2N, etc. Cooling redundancy: N1, etc Cooling medium: Air cooled; Liquid cooled; Chilled water; No cooling; Direct expansion; Not specified Cooling setup: When available for the selected cooling medium Selected devices for IT load: Filter to include only the devices you want to include in the calculation.   Note: On the mobile app, you can view the sustainability data only. Log in to IT Expert on a computer to modify configurations to improve the PUE score.     Select devices contributing to IT load Selecting or deselecting a device impacts the IT load used in PUE calculations.   Select the devices you want to include in the PUE calculation.       View available assessments on the Reports > Assessments tab.   Click Download CSV in the UPS Score assessment tile to save the assessment. Click Generate report to download the UPS Assessment report that contains data from both the UPS Score and the UPS Load assessments.   The UPS Score assessment evaluates the relative ranking of a UPS based on its state. The score is between 0 and 100, with 100 being the best possible score.   UPS_Score_Details_360005843017.png How is the Score calculated and reflected?   The score calculation is based on anonymous benchmarking of the following factors against comparable devices:   Temperature of the battery  UPS Age Battery Age If the UPS has either a Critical Alarm or a Lifetime Alarm, indicating end-of-life for the device Unbalanced, for a 3-phase UPS, where the phases are not equally balanced   The scores are evaluated as being either: Poor (0-33) displayed in red Average (33-66) displayed in orange Good (66-100) displayed in green   On the Assessments page, a quick insight into the distribution of assessed devices is indicated in the UPS Score.   UPS_Score_Widget_360005843017.png Recommendations based on the score   Based on a factor in a score with a poor evaluation, a related recommendation is given. For example, if a battery is old, there is a recommendation to replace the battery.   On the UPS Score page, you can filter for a specific score or recommendation.   UPS_Score_Overview_360005843017.pngRecommendations appear on every tab in the UPS Score details page.   ITE_UPS_score_recommendation_1_360005843017.png   Significant Changes   Since a significant change to any of the factors of the score will impact and update the score for the UPS, there is a dedicated view for all the significant changes that influenced the score on the Changes tab of the UPS Score details page.   ITE_UPS_Score_Details_changes_360005843017.png Alarms   Critical and lifetime alarms that impacted the score are displayed on the Alarms tab, with the title, description, and general information about the duration.   ITE_UPS_Score_Details_alarms_360005843017.png Battery Wear   The latest addition to the UPS Score is an extension of the battery information, with details about the wear of the battery, on the Battery tab. Tip: IT Expert Administrator users can now update the Last Battery Replacement date on a single device. See Single device configuration   Battery wear information is currently available for: Single phase Smart-UPS 3-phase Smart-UPS Easy UPS 3S Single phase Galaxy UPS Some 3-phase Galaxy UPS only Supported Galaxy 3-phase UPSs Symmetra UPS Supported Symmetra UPSs Note: UPSs with lithium batteries are not included in the UPS assessment at this time.   The Battery tab contains three segments of information related to the wear.   Battery details indicates the current wear of the battery. When the wear is beneath the recommended threshold of 40%, the wear is indicated in red. The wear also indicates an expected end-of-life (EEOL) year and month for the battery. If the temperature of the battery is not optimal (25°C / 77 °F), an additional expected end-of-life at ideal temperature is given if there is at least one month of additional lifetime for the battery.   Main factors of wear indicates the impact of the three factors that contribute to the calculation of the battery wear: Temperature, Age, and the cumulative count of registered discharges (cycles).   Health projection is a projection of the decay of the battery over the time it has been monitored. The graph includes both the EEOL and the EEOL at ideal temperature, if present.   ITE_UPS_Score_Battery_360005843017.png   UPS Score details page on the Battery tab indicates a battery wear beneath the threshold of 40%   In case of available battery wear model data, the first tab will be extended with the battery health wear in percent.   ITE_UPS_Score_Details_Battery_Wear_360005843017.png What does this mean for you?   The UPS Score assessment gives you insight into your UPS using a score calculated against comparable devices. You can use the score as an indication of how close the components, or the device itself, is to its end-of-life, and determine whether the device is being used in an optimal way.   Life expectancy can vary greatly depending on factors such as whether you proactively perform routine maintenance.   Disclaimer   The UPS Score assessment gives the most accurate indication of the state of your hardware when you're using the latest Gateway version and a self-test has been run on the UPS.

      The UPS Load assessment evaluates a period of power load on your UPS. There are three categories: High load, Medium load, and Low load.      Screenshot_2019-09-12_at_10_3600352323942740.png     How is the UPS load calculated and reflected?   The load is evaluated based on the load percentage reported by the device.   A High load is at or above 80%. This indicates possible danger if the load should spike very high.   A Medium load is between 25% and 80%. This indicates a normal expected load for a single phase UPS.   A Low load is under 25%. This indicates you're not currently using the equipment to its fullest potential. You can use this to optimize your data center.     Trend analysis     Load measurements for the device are collected over a minimum of 7 days. A projection is provided for the same period in the future based on the assumption that the load will continue with the same trend.    For example, 30 days after the first measurement is taken from the UPS, the trend displays how that load will look 30 days into the future. This is a total of 60 days from when the first measurement was taken.   Continuous measurements are needed for a trend to be reliable. If the device goes offline, or a day of measurement gathering gets skipped, a loss of reliability to create the prediction results. A new projection will not be provided until at least 30 continuous sequential days of load measurements are gathered.   What does this mean for you?   The load assessment gives you insight into aggregated load information for your UPS devices so you can react intelligently on the possible need to reorganize your equipment.   The trend analysis helps you plan ahead to mitigate possible power spikes on the device. In the case of a diminishing trend, you can plan for more optimal power balancing in your data center.   Disclaimers   Make sure the latest version is installed on the Gateway monitoring your UPS. The UPS load assessment is aimed solely at non-redundant setups. Redundancy is not taken into account when a high load warning is reported.

      View Assessments on the Reporting > Assessments tab.   The Device Security assessment identifies APC and Schneider Electric devices monitored by IT Expert that do not meet current security standards, lists vulnerabilities, and provides recommended actions.    The Device Security assessment includes Ripple20 vulnerability detection, vulnerable device configurations, out of date firmware, and devices that should be replaced due to security issues that cannot be addressed otherwise.   You can download a PDF report of this assessment and export the list of vulnerable devices as a CSV file. See Why are devices shown as not analyzed in the Device Security assessment?   About modifying APC SNMP device settings   IT Expert Administrators can modify settings on one or more APC SNMP devices that support config.ini.  See Single device configuration to modify settings on one device and copy those settings to many devices of the same type. Also see Device configuration   Note: You can update firmware for APC devices in ITE on the Management > Firmware Update tab, and update device configurations on the Management > Device Configuration tab.     Ripple20 analysis Alerts you to devices that are Ripple20 vulnerable. Take interim mitigation steps and update firmware when it is available.  See Ripple20 vulnerabilities in the Treck TCP/IP stack   Web analysis Alerts you to devices that use HTTP rather than HTTPS. Using HTTPS minimizes the risk that web traffic is intercepted, replayed, or impersonated by a malicious actor.   SNMP analysis Alerts you to devices that use SNMPv1 rather than SNMPv3 Enable Encryption and Authentication on top of SNMPv3 to minimize the risk that data is intercepted or replayed by a malicious actor.   Replacement analysis Alerts you to devices at or nearing end of life. Many security features are available by replacing your network management card or device with the latest hardware.   Firmware update analysis Alerts you to devices running outdated firmware. New versions of firmware are made available throughout the year for the Network Management Card in your APC devices. It is generally recommended that you update devices to the latest firmware available.   Remote access analysis Alerts you to devices with Telnet enabled rather than SSH Using SSH minimizes the risk that data is intercepted, replayed, or impersonated by a malicious actor.   File transfer analysis Alerts you to devices with FTP enabled rather than SCP Using SCP minimizes the risk that file reads and writes between your physical infrastructure devices and other file management systems is intercepted, replayed, or impersonated by a malicious actor.       The Alarm report takes a deeper dive into the alarms for each unit.   Select a device to see alarms activated during the last 90 days, significant changes in the data, and when the alarm started, when it cleared, how many times it has happened before, and how long it has been in an alarm state.    UPS devices also include UPS score details.        

      The Active lifespan alarms assessment looks at active critical alarms that may impact the use of your unit. It shows currently active and recently resolved alarms. The view of the devices and alarms helps you determine what needs to replaced based on the alarms present.   Example This UPS recently had a Battery Replacement Needed alarm. You can see when the alarm started, when it cleared, how many times it has happened before, and how long it has been in an alarm state. With this information, you can quickly determine whether the unit need to be replaced or if it is healthy.
