When does PCSS determine it is necessary to create an Archive folder with a pcss-1.log?

Now, my scripts - for newly installed computers - work perfectly.
However, older computers that I check periodically are failing.
I have learned that PCSS takes the "original" pcss.log file, renames it to pcss-1.log and moves it to an Archive folder. Ongoing transactions continue in the pcss.log.
What I'd like to know is:
1. What causes the software to determine an archive is necessary?
2. How large can a pcss.log file become (and is that a factor)?
3. Will PCSS create a pcss-2.log file at some point?
4. Finally, why is the "Device detected!" statement not issued in the new pcss.log file?!?
Thanks!
Asking because I'm going to have to revamp my script to first determine the existence of the archive folder and change actions and responses accordingly.

I can answer "3" - in that PCSS will create any number of pcss-x.logs in the Archive folder.
Hoping that someone from APC/SE can confirm "4" (Device detected!! does not appear in log) occurs because the USB cable is no longer connected. If not, what >is< the condition that would cause this?
