I recently bought a Honda EU6500I generator and a UTS10BI Transfer switch with a UPS 1500 battery back up. to be prepared for the next power outage here in Washington State. My house is Gas and Electric (Gas Furnace only 120v no A/C Gas Water Heater). I called APC and asked about connecting 10 120v loads however they said you can only connect 8 120v loads and if you do not have a 240v load, you just have to cap wires 9 and 10. I know that I need a 240v input as required on circuits 9 and 10, however why can I not connect 2 120v loads to circuits 9 and 10 and run those simultaneously since they are switched together as a single switch.
Pleased help to explain.

hello,
circuits 9 and 10 need to be 180º out of phase (which gives you 240v) in order to power up the UTS itself.

I understand the 180 degrees phase difference on the input side.
What I would like to do, is use the output on two different loads. I know that loads will have to be managed as a single load by the switch.
Is this going to cause a load imballance or something like that on the output side of switches 9 and 10?

yes, load imbalance is a problem with this so that is why it cannot be done.

I placed and order (and paid for) for this UTS unit back in early September 2011 and everytime I call to find out status of when it will be coming my dealer keeps telling me that the manufacturer has pushed back the anticipated delivery date agian. Would mind letting me know where you were able to find this unit in stock. Every where I look online it is out of stock. A company name and phone # or website address would greatly appreciated. I can't understand why after 6 months this unit is still out of stock.

I searched every local equipment company within 3 cities and found a retail outlet that had one from 2010 that had never been open or sold. They had just performed a 5 year inventory and found it. I know that APC has this unit on back order because all available stock was depleted during this winter.
Keep trying and do not get discouraged.
Good Luck in your searching.

I am having the same problem. I ordered one at the end of September and I'm still waiting for it. Every couple of weeks I get a new expected date that is a few more weeks away. I am on the verge of cancelling my order and going with a traditional transfer switch. At least I know I can get one.

Hold out for APC to replenish their stock. Winter is almost over in most of the country and you will not be disappointed. If your wife or you want more than one backup source with the ability to automatically manage your loads, wait for this one.
