UPS Pro 550 - Problem with Synology DS2411+

Hi,

I use a UPS Pro 550 with a Synology DS2411+ NAS. The units are Connectet with the USB Cable, The NAS recognice the USV.

If i remove the Power Cable from the UPS the DS2411+ stops and shut down. - OK
If i stick in the Power Cable to the UPS the DS2411+ starts up. - OK

But then the UPS switches to Batterie Mode (Klack and I see it on the UPS Display) and shut down again.(Unsave)
After the next Start up everthing is OK.

Is it possible that the DS2411 switch the UPS to Batterie Mode with the USB Cable, or is it a Firmeware BUG from the UPS??
I looked in the USV with the SW on the PC but there is no Point where i can adjust this.

Edit: It looks like, it's the Firmware from the APC UPS - i read a similar Problem with a PC at an other tread here, and in the List from Synology. From Synology i got the Info, that the DS2411+ does not send to the APC USP that it should switch to batterie Mode.
So i don't understand this Function from The APC UPS - for me this is a Bug.

There is a lot of factors that we need to look at with your situation. It seems that the NAS is having an issue with either the transfer time or the step approximated sine wave that the UPS provides when it is running on battery.

Have you tried contacting your NAS manufacturer and check with them the transfer time that it accepts and if it would run on a step approximated sine wave? Our BackUPS product line has an 4 to 6ms of transferring from Online to On Battery.

So i read all the factors of the kbase. No one from them is useable for me.

The Transfer Time is not the Problem, because when i don't shut down the APC UPS with the NAS Firmware it works. Also it works right, when i wait, until the Batterie Power from the APC USV is emtpy. Than everthing, safe Shutdown and Startup!!, are right!
Also the Step approximated sine wave is not the Problem. The NAS works with Batterie Power, where the Step approximated sine wave is in use. Also it Starts up right, when i wait until the Batterie Power is empty, ore the Power 230V comes back before the Batterie is empty.

Only when I shut down the APC UPS with the NAS Firmware (Shut down is safe and ok), then by the Start up when 230V are back, the APC UPS switches itself to Batterie Mode after 30 or 60 sec. the APC UPS shut down again! (Itself an so clerly also the NAS 😉 (Power 230V are here and ok!) And then at the next Start, witch make the APC UPS from itself, it stays online.

And I asked Synology and the sayed i should buy a other UPS. They also sayed, that the NAS don't send a Signal after Start up that the APC UPS should switch to Battery Mode and shut down unsafe.
I don't understand how the APC UPS can switch to Batterie Mode after start up! when the Power is online (230V). How is this possible?

The Problem is reproducible every time, and i have no Chance after Shut down from the APC UPS with the NAS Firmware (Same as in your SW) to start up the APC UPS without a second Shutdown.

So i think, the Start Up routine from the APC UPS is the Problem! (Only after Shut down APC UPC with the Client order)
And sorry that i can say you exactly the switch of times or switch to Batterie mode Time from the APC, because i don't want to crash my Raid with 7 HDD'S on the NAS, because now they are full with Data. To Rebuild it, it's a looong Time.

For your Info:
I heard from a other Synology User, that the "APC Back-UPS ES 550VA, USB (BE550G-GR)" has this Problem i descriped, not.
So it looks like the cheaper Part is better.
Can anyone explane me why?
Can I change the FW from the APC UPC?

Yes, I have the same problem with APC Back-UPS ES 550VA, USB BE550G-GR , and Synology DS413j . I think the fw from ups is the problem. I do not know what to do!?! I do not recommend this product  APC Back-UPS ES 550VA, USB BE550G-GR because: has too many eco features, power management stuff for conserving the energy, but finally the ups not doing the job. Disappointed...

its very difficult to say where the problem is but in APC's defense, i cannot find anywhere stating that this UPS (or any UPS) supports this type of NAS? Does the manufacturer have a supported UPS list where APC UPSs are listed or recommended (but don't work)? I don't think APC has tested many NAS or any for that matter to ensure compatibility so it seems as though we are being blamed for this problem not knowing that this is something users are using the device for and are being told to purchase this model.
