Powerchute Serial Shutdown SSL Ceritificate error

Hello All

Keep getting a page in browser when i open or attempt to open application and it says Cert Invalid--

Is there a way to fully fix that, and be able to use PowerChute serial shutdown correctly?

You can add the self-signed certificate to the browser and you will not be asked to accept it.

You may also install your own certificate with one signed by a known certificate authority.

Please refer to the PowerChute security handbook for information on changing the security certificate located here:

I felt that was confusing on how to install your own, i read that over 3-4 times, and worked on this issue for days trying to figure it out.      I suppose i could reinstall Powerchute serial shutdown after i do a system backup image, and try again soon here.

But does my UPS Even support this software?

APC Battery backup

BN1350M2

If it doesn't, i might decide to stay with Windows 11 Native battery backup support maybe, not sure as yet.

I’ll keep this simple and for the benefit of others asking the same. Every browser and website uses a certificate to tell each other who they are.

In simple terms it’s like the yellow pages. It’s supposed to validate a person / website.

Obviously in 2025 with bad actors anyone can pretend to be someone / website. So the industry came out with the concept of signed certificates issued by companies and third party CA (Certificate Authority).

This was done in hopes of preventing and reducing security risks - It doesn’t. But, none the less this is why the browser is crying about the certificate / site not being secure or validated.

All you need to do is click on the link and say accept this site is OK. Or follow the APC FAQ I provided to create a self signed certificate and place the same into your browser.

Lastly, for clarity sake when the APC PCSS website is open this is local to your network. It’s not going out anywhere to the Internet like surfing to a off site server.

The obvious problem is Joe Average doesn’t understand the distinction as all they see (IS) a webpage which in their head equates to a off site website! 🤦‍♂️
