Outlets controlled by master

I have a Back-UPS-ES-750 and recently the 3 outlets that are controlled by the master do not work. One more thing is I did not install the CD for it.

Any suggestions.

Wow, thank you so much. I had the same problem and could not quite understand why my 3 Surge Protection (controlled by Master) outlets on my BE750G were not working; and yet, all the other outlets are working fine. I searched the Internet for the same problem and viewed APC's website for support, discussions of other folks with the problem, etc., but for 3 weeks I simply could not find anyone with the same problem. Then I found this Discussion Forum, registered and thank you so much. I was able to handle the problem without contacting my PC Club for assistance.

hi

the software on the CD isnt required for you to use the UPS.

do you have anything plugged into the master outlet? is the master/controlled outlet feature enabled to disabled?

refer to the manual I attached to this post for help enabling/disabling/adjusting thresholds.

if the feature is enabled, whatever is plugged into the master outlet must be on (above a certain wattage draw based on the threshold you set) or else the controlled outlets will remain off.

Thank you. In reading some of what you sent should solve my problem. I had my FAX/Printer turned off and may have caused it to shut down outlets. Did not realize te Master controlled outlets do all the funtions as explained in the manual.

Tomorrow, I will do some alterations to see if it works again.

I read through the PDF you posted on the APC 750.

I have only two things plugged into the battery+surge outlets: The computer, which is plugged into the one marked "master", and my monitor.

The UPS battery is plugged directly into the wall outlet, however, the wall outlet is a GFCI outlet.

I had a lightening strike today, and everything shut down ... the monitor went out, and so did the computer. The green lights on the backup UPS appeared to go black for a moment, and then they came back on. (The computer and monitor are fine.)

First, do I have this all configured properly?

Second, is the GFCI outlet a problem? Is the GFCI taking the hit first, and then consequently knocking out power to the backup ups? I would think, if that was the case, the battery would continue to provide power to the PC and the monitor, which it did not in this case.

I should point out that I renovated my home office a month ago, and so I've moved things around, and I"m using new wall outlets. But, prior to the rennovation, this backup ups was working exactly as I expected. But now, it isn't, so I'm wondering what I've done differently to cause this.

Although an old thread .... I bought the ES 750 today and cannot get the Master outlet load to control the Controlled By Master outlets.

I have a TV plugged into Master and it draws about 150w when ON and less than 20w when OFF.

The Controlled by Master loads are two TV satellite receivers.

The energy saving feature is activated (it's light is ON). Using all three threshold levels, the Master will not turn on the Controlled By Master devices. ( Controlled by Master outlets do energize when energy saving mode is disabled.)

Any suggestions?

Hi Leo,

Can you tell us how did you change the threshold level and have you tried using a different load on the master outlet?  If you can install PowerChute Personal Edition on a Windows Machine and hook up the UPS you can easily change the threshold of the unit.

I changed the threshold level via the button on the unit as described in the paper instructions. I have loaded the software and changed the levels with the USB connection.

The master loads tried are TV, electric light, power drill, battery charger, air purifier fan.

I read somewhere here about a reset procedure. Remove battery, press button ...

You might be talking about the procedure outlined below:

1: Disconnect any attached load.

2: Unplug the UPS from the wall socket.

3: Disconnect the UPS' internal battery.

4: Push and hold the ""On"" button on the UPS for 5 seconds

5: Reconnect internal battery.

6: Plug UPS in to known good power source.

7: Turn UPS on.

I wanted to check as well, if you disable the Master Control feature of this unit - what would happen on the load on the controlled by master?  Do they turn on?

When the Master is disabled - green light is off - Master and Controlled by Masters are live.

Just tried the reset procedure and it does not cure.

EDIT:

Did an exchange with the vendor. Replacement unit functions properly. (On-line chat agent told me a TV Master load would not work, only "computer type" loads. That is incorrect. My TV switches the Controlled by Master outlets.)

Can I get some help, as a small startup business I thought I'd try the back-ups es700 at home before looking at recommending and installing 1500, 3000 models for clients.

I've plugged a vu+solo2 satelite receiver in to the master socket, applt-tv, tv & amp into the slave.

Switched all devices off, pressed and help the master enable button for 6 seconds and released after hearign the 3 beeps.

When I switch the device i nthe master socket on, I don't get power in the slave sockets, please advise.

Hello Dh4rms -

Are you also using the BE750G unit? If you do, have you tried using a different load on the master outlet as well as disabling the master control feature of the unit to check if the controlled outlets would work? The master enable LED will turn off once the feature has been disabled.

My BE750G has the same issue, in that none of the three "controlled by master" outlets will activate, even with a high load on the master outlet.  The outlets work fine when master control is disabled, however the same configuration that works on one of my two BE750 units does not work on the second, newer BE750 unit.  How can I exchange this unit for a replacement?  It seems pretty clear the second BE750 is defective.  Thank you.
