RS 800 won't turn on - Red and Green lights and Beeping

So I've been using a RS 800 for about 4 months now. I bought the unit at a garage sale so I don't know how old it is. I live on an island in the South Pacific and we have very very poor power. The power is constantly spiking and we have several power outages a week. This UPS has worked great up until this past week. When I turn it on now the green light comes on for about 2 seconds, then the yellow light comes on (Green light is still on) and I can hear a humming. This lasts for about 4-5 seconds. Then the red light (Replace Battery) light comes on solid (Green light is still solid) and the unit starts chirping continuously.

The manual said that Green light + Red light + chirping means that the battery isn't connected. I opened it up but the battery was connected properly.

I've found that if I keep turning it on and off for long enough it will work fine (The red light never comes on after the diagnostic test). But tonight it finally got so it wouldn't work at all.

Also, I want to mention that the red light has not been on previously, so I am hoping that the battery doesn't need to be replaced. Due to my location, shipping a battery here would be very difficult and super expensive.

Any advice would help.

can you provide us with the first several letters/digits of your serial number?

from what you describe, it sounds like the battery may need to be replaced. the red light being solid means you should replace the battery, but if it is very old and of low voltage, the UPS can report a disconnected battery.

by telling us the beginning of the serial number, we can see how old it is to make sure that it makes sense it could be the battery.

when the UPS starts up, it does a self test which tests the battery.

One more update - after a few minutes of use the red light flashed for about 20 seconds and it chirped about once every 5 seconds. They didn't sound like complete chirps though - they sounded almost interrupted or cut short.
