This unit was working fine in place for about 8 months...
Now, when this UPS unit is plugged directly into a wall power source in for about 10 minutes with no load on the unit - the Overload light goes on , the tone starts to sound with a constant tone, and a panel light flashed 4 lights, pause, 4 lights, pause, .... until I finally had to unplug the unit and turn it off
The highest load that the unit during the first 8 months were a cable modem, linksys wireless Access Point, and a linksys 8 port router - all in Battery Back-up outlets, and nothing in the surge outlets - a relatively low total load for this level of UPS unit.
Is this a battery problem or a fault within the unit? I've tried all of the self test steps with no additional insight into the problem...
Any help would be insightful...
Thanks,
Dan

hi dan,
so all of the lights flash sequentially on the front? most likely this is an internal fault on the UPS.
the last thing i'd try if you can is disconnecting the battery completely, reconnecting it and then turning the UPS back on. this will make sure its been fully reset and will clear the fault if it can clear.
if not, if the UPS is in warranty, you'd probably want to contact APC support via email or phone and let them know the issue so they can send you a replacement.
if you post the first couple digits of the serial number, we can tell you on here if its in warranty - which it sounds like it is based on the time you've gotten out of it.
let us know if theres any other details that may help!

Partially correct, the only light that flashes is the overload light, 4 flashes then pause...and constant tone.
I tried your recommendation - I disconnected the battery and let it sit for about 15 minutes to let everything clear, reconnected the battery and received the same result after about 15 minutes...
I'm pretty sure that it is still under warranty - I have the original receipt - the first several digits of the serial number start out as JB064002
Thanks, Dan

APC customer support actually responded - requesting my information so that they can replace the unit...
Thanks for your feedback...

yes, just looking at that, i believe it will still be under warranty until early 2009.
it sounds like an internal fault to me since the overload LED is flashing and you have reset the battery. i recommend calling/emailing support and asking for a replacement UPS.
you can reference this thread if you need to.
let me know how that works out or if you need anything else.
