I bought an APC Back UPS 850 this week. The goal is to protect a small network with 2 PCs and 3 NAS's against power failure.
However, no connection is made to the network via the unit's Wall Outlet. Tried multiple cables, all ports of the router are OK.
I also cannot find a MAC address anywhere on the device or the documentation.
Is something broken? Do I need extra software.
When I do a firmware check via the PC software "Power chute Serial Shutdown" I get the message that there is no connection to the internet.
As it is now, I cannot use the device for what I bought it for.

The two network ports on the back of the UPS is for surge protection. It provides no networking capability or management. Please refer to the full user manual on page 4:

Hello Teken,
The link you sent refers to an incorrect user guide.
So if I understand correctly, there is no option to trigger multiple devices via the local Ethernet network? Only 1 device can be connected and operated on the trigger/data port?
Why do I get the message that there is no connection to an Ethernet network when checking the firmware (option in Power Chute software)? The PC is connected to the router, and the router to the internet. That suggests that the UPS unit itself searches for its own internet connection.
"The two network ports on the back of the UPS is for surge protection"
I cannot imagine this, especially if no connection is made.

When do I use these 2 ports. How and where do I connect them. Where can I find and make the settings.
The user manual does not state what the purpose of these ports is and to which equipment they can be connected.

It's all going very slowly. I'm considering returning the unit and looking for a better documented UPS unit.
Best regards, C

The user manual has been appended here:
https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_Doc_Ref=SPD_990-91286_EN&p_enDocType=User+guide
As stated the two ports are for surge protection listed as item 10. One is the input the other is output so the signal coming through is protected to the end target device like a Telephone/ Fax machine.
There are (No) network settings using these ports as it doesn’t incorporate a NIC.
On page six item 12 is the Data Port for the APC Power Chute / Other. You can use that port to communicate with the computer and UPS.
Which is normally used to shutdown the target computer when there is a power quality issue present.

Thanks Teken,
I have returned the unit to the seller. Unfortunately, I cannot do what I had in mind with this unit.
Thanks again for your responses.
Kind regards,
Cees
