I have purchased an APC Line-R for voltage stabilization for my audio-video system. It has sufficient plug-ins for my needs but I am wondering if this unit provides a safe level of surge protection. It is rated at 680 joules of surge energy but does not appear to be UL 1449 certified. Should I add a separate surge protector to this unit? Thanks for your help.

I was hoping that APC had performance units that were smaller, like say 6 outlets while still maintaining a very small clamping voltage. Thanks for your quick response and all the best.

i believe UL1449 is any device with a let through voltage rating of < 330v and this unit is < 450v.
you could think about a surge protector but you just want to make sure that you still dont go over the 1200watt/1200VA rating even though you have a lot more outlets.

Thanks for your response. The total wattage of the devices plugged into the Line-R is aprox 600. It does appear that a good surge protector is needed. Which surge protector would you recommend? I only need 4 inputs for devices and prefer a surge clamping of <40.

hi,
i'd take a look at anything on this page, depending on what you need for data line protection. anything in the performance line is <40v let through, home/home office is <85 and essential is <330v.
hope this helps!

One more point.....is it okay to plug the Line-R 1200 into a surge protector or vis-versa (such as a model P11VNT3) or does this affect warranty coverage? In other words, is putting them in series from the wall plug cause any system trouble or void any warranty on either product with APC? If doing so is okay and since I only need 4 outlets for my equipment, whioch product should be plugged into the wall outlet?
Sorry ofr all the questions but I frequently see contradicting info on various forum board sabout these issues and want to know from APC that this is okay.

[take a look at this article|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1372]
overall, its not recommended to daisy chain things like this but that article goes over that and the reasoning. as long as each device is APC brand, warranty will be maintained but may effect the equipment protection policy as noted.

Based on your input, I returned the Line-R and bought a P-11VNT3 surge protector instead. Thanks again for all your help. APC rocks!
