I just got BX1300 XS. There are no written instructions how to properly install the battery. My problem is that there are actually two possible connectors for the red wire. In the picture that comes with the unit it shows the two open central connectors in the middle of the battery unit attached by some sort of connector, however the actual unit doesnt have any connector between these two plus and minus connections. I assumed that the black goes into the first connector and the red in the last connector that are farthest apart from each other. However when I turn the unit on the battery light flashes and shows absolutely no power and the unit beeps. I am afraid that the internal connector is somehow missing, and the two halves of the battery pack are not connecting with each other. It says to charge the unit 16 hours, but I cant believe that there is no juice at all in the batteries. I also cant believe that a unit that cost this much would have such terrible documentation.
I would appreciate it if someone would let me know how to properly attach the battery, and if I am missing some kind of internal connector. Is it usual for the unit to come with a battery pack that is completely discharged? I have had other APC UPS with less power and I remember them coming with charged up batteries. I would call someone at the company but it is closed on Sunday and Monday since it is a long weekend.
Jonathan

Thanks. I would have done that but they were closed all weekend and I really need a backup system. I ended up returning it and getting a new one that indeed had the bridge and worked right out of the box. I suspect that the first one I got had been opened and tampered with, but I cannot be sure...

The quick start paper guide that's in the box shows battery connection as step 2 if I remember correctly. It SHOULD be obvious since only the connector post closest to you as you pull out the battery should be disconnected. There should be a little bridge to connect the two middle posts. Is that missing on your unit?
Usually, all that's required is to connect the one loose wire to the one post without a wire already connected.
That unit will chirp and flash the battery icon if the battery is not properly connected. That would mean that the battery is not charging nor will your load stay up in an outage.

From looking at the picture I suspected that there is supposed to be a bridge. But indeed it is missing from my unit. I am going to return it to Circuit City today and get another one. Thanks for alerting me to this... I do think that they could provide a set of clearly written directions rather than just a picture. Is it really so difficult to do this for a unit that costs $199.00?
