i searched the forum but couldnt find anything useful. firstly reading through the forum i understand what clamp short might mean but i`m struggling to decide if i should return my UPS or try to find the fault if possible and fix that.
i purchased this UPS on the 12th of june 2005 and its been working very nicely for 2 days. the 3rd day (15th June) when i came home there was a power surge and the UPS was making a weird continous low pitch noise with an error code F04. reading through this forum i found out that i should unplug everything - remove the battery and leave for 5 minutes - plug back in and it all works well as mentioned here.
problem is now its frequent and its happened for the 6th time today. being in a country like srilanka we really have abosoulty horrible grid power so a UPS is essential. could it be that the UPS is faulty ? what steps can i take to test this out before going to return this ?

Hi,
If you need urgent support at anytime, I'd recommend you contact your local support office for the quickest response.
Can you let me know what model of UPS this is? I am looking for the model number on the white sticker on the back or bottom. It sounds like a BR or BX something but it may be a region specific model where F04 is triggered by a certain threshold or something that is different from other units.
From the general information I've found, it appears if it continues that the unit may need to be replaced but depending on what is causing it, the root problem may damage any new or replacement UPS too.
