I bought the Back-UPS BX1300 and I have been having Problems with the Computer freezing since. I have been in touch with the Support team and have uninstalled the Program that comes with it and downloaded the new version. Un installed that and I am still having the same Problem. My Computer freezes every so often It could be 2 Days or 2 Weeks in between. This has been going on now for two months. I don't know what to do or how to find out what is causing it. I would be so happy if someone could help.

Hello,
It definitely looks like a problem with the PC having the wrong software. Uninstall that, and use the following link:

You've uninstalled the software, and it still freezes? At this point, I would disconnect the USB communication cable and see if the problem still persists. I would also download Windows Defender and run a scan on your machine. It may not be the software that is causing the freeze.
Also, What are the specs on the PC? Specifically related to memory size? If you leave your computer running for weeks at a time, memory utilization can start to creep up.

I have an HP Media Center m7170n Computer running Windows XP Prof SP2 with 2 GB Ram, 3:00 Gigahertz Intel Pentium D, Maxtor 300 GB Hard Drive. I have McAfee Virus and Firewall, Spysweeper and Ad-Aware which I run every 2 Days. My Problem didn't start until I installed the UPS Battery backup Prior to that my Computer never froze. When You say unhook the USB Communication Cable I guess that You mean the cable running from the Data Port to one USB Outlet. If I unhook that, will I still have the battery Backup. In other words will the battery backup still take over when we loose the Power? If I need to disconnect it, I will. it is just that where i live, we loose our Power often. I check Event Viewer every time I freeze but their never is an entry with regard to the Freezing. Thank You for your help.

Yes, if you remove the data cable, the UPS will still transfer to battery upon power loss. That is the next logical step.

Thank You. I will do that and get back to you at a later time. Since their is no specific time limit that the computer freezes, it might be a while. Thank You

I would like to ask an other question. What would it mean if after removing the USB Communication Cable my Computer doesn't freeze anymore? That would give me an idea on how to proceed. Thank You

I think we can cross that bridge once we get to it. This is another unique situation, which is rarely, if ever, seen. Therefore we can analyze what's going on once we've eliminated the OS and any other software installed as a problem.

We have been having this same problem for quite a few months. Un-Plugging the USB cable from the computer does stop the freezing but then you can't use the software to monitor your battery. Currently we have to unplug the USB cable and then start the computer, then plugging the USB cable back in after it starts up. This is obviously a work around for now but is there any way we can fix this? We are running Windows 2000 SP4 on this particular workstation. Anything to try would be appreciated.

Dave,
Have you tried to reinstall or update the USB drivers for the device? Are all the ports on the machine running at 2.0? Have you tried all the ports on the machine?

I'll check on those things and if there is anything I can try out of that I will and I'll get back to you.
Thanks.

Hello. Same issue here using an ES-550. This is on XP Pro SP-3 and PowerChute 2.0 (latest version from website). Shortly after I installed this, I noticed my computer started hanging. It seemed that this often happened during my nightly AVG anti-virus scan but it could have happened other times as well. With the computer frozen completely it is hard to say when it happened or what else was going on. I have since removed PowerChute and am using the native UPS support in XP. Since then, I have not had a single hang. This is not proof positive but strongly suggests there is some issue with PowerChute.

Similar thing is happening here. I am using Vista 32 bits with PS 2.1.1. My pc started to freeze on every power drop (and we get a lot of small surges everyday), so I reinstalled my Vista. At first (after the clean install) it was working perfectly, but out of nowhere it started to freeze again. The strange thing is that it is not a complete freeze, the pc is just very very very slow... I mean, you move the mouse and the cursor will move after 4-5 minutes. I am still testing to find out if it is the APC data cable, or some other device attached to a USB port that may be loosing power whenever the power drops... but so far no luck. APC customer service was unable to help either. Now, I have the same APC model (RS1500) on three different computers (all with the same OS - Vista 32), but this is only happening to one of them.
